    hahaha.. I've got a love/hate relationship with this exhaust setup. lol I gotta try and be easy on it in the mornings and leaving work.. otherwise it pops LOUD. lol I love it once im cruisin tho.. little rumble and pop between gears. been rippin it around and it gets it pretty good for being older than I am. lol at least it feels like its haulin :rofl:

    So I looked into the backfiring a few days ago, and came back to this thread again today. Describes the same symptoms as mine, and results in the Vacuum system. So I tried the test described here...

    here's my Vacuum Diagram

    I pulled the hose off the AAP diaphragm and capped both ends. We'll see tomorrow morning.

    if in fact this is the issue, its part of the rebuild anyways, so I will be making that happen here in the next couple weeks. Professionally rebuilt and tuned.

    Probably have a few bad vacuum hoses, unless they have all been replaced.

    That's pretty accurate on both parts.. lol

    Most hoses have been replaced.. but some of t he small short ones haven't, Including this one. The Previous Owner also decided to paint the valve cover while on the vehicle.. and didnt tape off some of the hoses.. :facepalm:

    Well.. the AAP Diaphragm test did the trick. truck ran smooth and quiet this morning.

    so now comes the question. block off/get rid of all the Emissions/Vacuum BS.. or leave it all factory and just get the carb rebuilt and tuned. It will get rebuilt regardless.. just not sure if I want to delete it all or not. I'm leaning towards leaving it all.

    Being over 25 years old, I have a strong feeling that they will only check safety functions, during inspections.

    oh it definitely doesnt need emissions. I have it registered out of the city and has a historical plate = no emissions. It's more so.. "do I even want to mess with it" and I kind of want to keep it all original motor wise for now. little more nostalgic when the hood is up.

    if it was low enough.. I would. lol

    Less than 24 months old = safety only
    2-25 years = safety + emissions
    25 years + = safety only

    I rarely see anything that old in my inspection bay, being at a dealership.

    Last thing I inspected that old was one of these and it was all stock and clean AF. Probably would’ve passed emissions test if it was subjected to one.

    Id probably keep it stock for a while if it was mine and just enjoy it! Then later down the road, just start accumulating parts and go full retard drift truck. Such a badass platform to build off of, and super clean!

    yesssss!! I love those VW trucks. them, and Datsun 620's. I was honestly looking for a Datsun at the same time I found this pickup. It was one or the other. lol

    agreed. just need to stop tinkering and drive it. but yes.. that is for sure the plan down the road! :thumbsup:

    It all comes down to if it fails, is it easier to remove, or replace? When those times come.
