Xtracab Appreciation Thread

That was probably a TRD Prerunner. Looks almost identical to the OR, even the graphic, but Toyota doesn't make an Xtracab OR. Also pretty rare from what I can tell.

 

I was surprised when I saw it. I didn't know they still made extra cabs on 4th gens.

If you're interested in rear locker, you will get it w/ PreRunner, but RWD. If you need 4WD, than you'd need to go w/ SR5 like OP has---- 4x4, but no locker.

 

Have to say the lines and symmetry of the Xtracab look so much better than a double cab. The 6' bed and the shorter cab are so much more proportionate than the double cab with 5' bed. Just my take. Can't wait to get my hands on one. I love the Prerunner but am afraid I'd regret not getting 4x4. Lots of deep sand here in Southern Utah

 

Toyota made some curious/baffling/poor decisions with regard to the AC/XC offerings. Love the Prerunner; but not offering a version in 4WD is just diabolical. Also wish they had kept the suicide doors.

 

That's a great looking truck. Like those blacked out wheels better than the TRD OR ones w/ the silver ring on the outside.

 

Short cab/long bed def better configuration for me as well. DK if you saw it, but posted message for you on your thread re dealer getting XC for you (a good one will help). I’ve been very happy with TPR, but if you need 4wd, getting SR5 will be your better option. Good luck with your search.

 

Agree with you re suicide doors—— would have made it much better, but it’s still a really good space and it likely came down to either doing it minus doors or scrapping it altogether. If so, very glad they kept it (better to have as is vs no more 2-dr at all). Prerunners have always only been 2-wd—— what you’d have been looking for would have been a TRD OR in 2-dr version which they did decide to quit making.

Found a few 2022/23 AC with very low mileage in TRD Sport and 1 OR that sold in minutes. All are hundreds of miles from home but might be worth the trip if I can find the right one.

 

I think you'll be disappointed in the power of a 3rd Gen after owning a 4th Gen. I still have my 3rd Gen and it's really noticeable jumping back and forth. As for the storage space on the Xtracab, I like it better than the access cab, with the storage bins and no "jump seats" that I never needed, but I do miss the half doors. Not a huge deal for me, but wish they'd kept em.

 

The lack of half doors are a deal breaker for me. I have the seat delete and there is just so much crap you can put back there (climate controlled) and not being able to easily access it kind of sucks.

 

That's a fact!! I came out of a 2020 Raptor and into the 4.0 v6 4Runner and my wife got sick of me saying " I miss my Raptor " every time I hit the gas to get up and go. My kid would say "me too" because he thought I was going to give that to him!! Told him in his next life he'll have a rich Dad! But getting into the 2024 OR I had I loved the power. I borrowed a 2016 Sport with 100k on it a few times and doesn't compare of course.

I wanted an Xtra cab Off Road as well . I have no use for the back seat or doors. After a 4 month wait for anything but 1 SR 2wd 6 hours away i gave up and spent 20k more than I wanted to on a long bed offroad premium. Its turning radius sucks worse than my long bed 19 Tundra. After owning it 1000 miles . I regret the premium. All the stupid “safety “ crap drives me nuts. The only premium features i actually like are the screen size and Softex seats. Which i could have gotten aftermarket Katskins. And the screen i could have gotten a take out used one. The only drawback of the Xtra cab is the leafspring rear. Every toyota with leafsprings Ive ever had squeaks.

 

Thank you ... found it. I agree with you. They know they are sitting on 2024 DC's and they will heavily discount them to move them out and pull the typical sales shit trying to tell me why I need or want this and not that! This time around I'm going to reach out to a broker also. Another member on the thread had great success doing it that way and I have the broker info. This weekend I will put my name on every dealer list and see who gets one first.

 

When I wanted my SR access cab UP and I went to the dealership with my wife, they literally tried to get her mad at me by saying that you can only fit one passenger in this vehicle and there are no backseats like she would suddenly be like “oh honey, let’s get this DC one instead” and she’s like “it’s his truck, let him get what he wants.”
