I like it! If I were gonna get one, this would be the one I'd get.

I'm glad Toyota is keeping options, but shame the rear doors are gone.

I did remove the rear seats, and now I keep a fridge back there, which has easy access. Oh, an access cab!

Probably not, I don't know why it isn't more popular.

    Definitely more convenient.

You can have your own door installed. Not practical or cost effective, but a possibility.

Toyota has a package summary page posted for the 2024 which indicates the premium offerings, perhaps most importantly the i-FORCE MAX power train, but also the bypass shocks, the isodynamic seats, will not be available to those who want an Xtracab. The "TrailHunter" version specifically mentions the overland crowd as to who it's made for. Then why only offer it as a double cab? Those who don't need 4 full size doors and full rear seats are better served with a 6-foot bed for overland use in most cases where cargo, campers, sleeping area, shelter, etc are the goal. It says they will do a 6-ft bed for the TrailHunter but then you end up with a long wheelbase and more weight; not ideal for overlanding where wheelbase matters on trails and trucks get above GVWR easily when fully outfitted. I submitted a query to Toyota:

"Regarding the 2024 Tacoma, why aren't the premium engine, drivetrain and suspension offerings available with an Xtra-cab 2-door body and 6-foot bed? Or am I mistaken? The typical "overlander" or person who uses the truck for exploring outdoors and camping often adds a camper and sleeping quarters to the truck and wants room to store camping gear and often, built in living space for shelter from the elements. Why would you restrict these users to the smaller confines of a 5-foot truck bed? Especially if it is a single person or a couple with only two vehicle occupants?
    Thank you."

Their reply seemed odd considering the web page with the packages was published:
"Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.

We appreciate your interest and inquiry in the 2024 Toyota Tacoma.

We apologize as additional information on the 2024 Toyota Tacoma is currently unavailable. Toyota will release information such as styling, specifications, features and options closer to the launch date. We currently do not have a tentative release date.

I won't be surprised when the big addition to the '26 model is they bring the rear door back on the xtra cab.

Even if it is now back to an extra cab, still has the best proportions. Oxide Brown is a sharp color, reminds me of pyrite mica. Great middle-aged man color. Ha!

Highly doubtful they’ll offer vinyl/rubber flooring, that would make too much sense. Have to buy a Ford to get that…

Speaking of access cabs, 2Gs probably had the best compromise, jump seats folded forward that made a great cargo area. Why Toyota abandons great ideas is Beyond me. And look, thought the fold down passenger looked familiar. Never owned a 2G, kinda skipped over those. Not the first time I was unhappy with Toyota’s decisions.

Lol! My letter threatened I was going to trade in for a Ford F150 when the time comes here in a couple years. I am sure the 20-25 or so guys who are pissed about this will make huge difference. :)

Sure I’ll get the same BS form letter in return.

I saw several posters saying "doubt it" in response to the xtracab being implemented so that it is safer in crashes than the suicide doors.

First, it is pretty simple in concept that having a solid cab for your door to latch to is structurally stronger than a front door latching directly to another door.
Second, crash tests continually change. Especially now that passenger vehicles are on average heavier today than in years past.

Here is a video where the IIHS is discussing the side impact test that recently changed quite a bit:

Worth comparing that in a small overlap test, the cab deflects more on the access cab than the double cab. Enough so that the door separates from sealing with the cab on the access cab. I know which I would choose for safer side impact protection

Toyota has a lot of time and money to think of something to keep the side doors.

Maybe but Tacoma is literally the best selling Midsize. They sell every truck they make. They also went 18 years with the Access Cab available.

Somehow, Nissan the Dodge of the Japanese manufacturers were able to get their newly redesigned Frontier King Cab to pass. That most likely won’t get a redesign for another 10-15 years.

World wide Corolla and RAV4 sales is what keeps Toyota afloat. Sure they sell a lot of Tacomas, it isn’t exactly their bread and butter. They also used to sell the Land Cruiser 200 here, that had laughable poor sales, they made a case for that, even talk of bringing it back, why??? to sell 3500/year of them if they are lucky? I am sure they could figure out how to get the AC to pass a crash test.

I do that too! Not all of us work in a office...:tumbleweed:
I would really miss the half size backward opening doors, it's my field office. I insisted on the access cab and had to wait for it when I bought my 23! Dealer said less that 20% of the tacos were AC.
Like the idea of 1 back door on the driver side for AC, 3 door truck:thumbsup:

    ...and it's cheaper

I have had people in my back "seats" about two times in two years but it was very handy when we needed them.
It has all of the good bullet points, but not sure if they are all available together...

Remove jump seats. Add dog platform. Add ARE DCU topper with camper mods.
I believe that's true - get people to buy double cab. I actually thought going backwards was good because the first thing everybody does is delete the jump seats and sub woofer. I've bashed my head on the rear door latch more times than I like to remember, but then again I've forgotten how bad a two door vehicle was. When the access cab fully loaded for a trip the dog has to go across the front seat anyway. I'm leaning towards double cab, never owned one before. Just want maximum cargo space and place for dog. Delighted they went back to a fold down passenger seat.
