Xtracab Parts Impossible To Find

I absolutely love my PreRunner but man is it annoying trying to find certain aftermarket parts that will fit for it. It seems like they must have only sold a hundred xtracabs or something. I was only able to find one running board on the market including Toyota (doesn't make one, they make one tube step and that is the only step/rock slider/running board/rocker panel etc. they offer). If you want a window visor or seat cover or floor mat or trim peices for the interior, have fun trying to find one that doesn't come as a package that includes the backseat pieces.

But currently I am really hoping to get a question answered. The xtracab has 4 attachment points on the roof that look identical to the ones on the double cab (I haven't popped them open and inspected up close but the black trim piece is exactly the same so I assume they are identical. They are closer together obviously and I know that no roof racks are made to fit that length but I was thinking about it and a pair of simple cross bars should work right? They will be closer together and provide a little less stability in that sense but they should work as far as I can tell. I've seen some roof bars on Amazon and they say they are for double cab only though so I can't tell if my idea is true or not. Before I buy, has anyone done this? or can anyone confirm one way or the other? Will simple roof cross bars that we know fit for the double cab models work with the attachment points on the xtracab? Are they somehow different and I'm not aware?

 

Same situation as you re loving the PreRunner, but finding so many things are only available for the DCs. Hope someone will chime in to answer your question about the roof mounting points and that in time the aftermarket will open up and offer more options for us xtracabbers.

 

Buy some used 2024 rock sliders remove one bracket at the back of both them on. Enjoy life way better than any aftermarket product. I can contest that it held the full weight of the vehicle as I was stuck on one rock and the rock slider did not yield.

 

That's awesome! I can't believe you found this solution, very impressed. I purchased running boards that were listed for the double cab thinking I could find a way to make it work but the mounting points on the boards did not match the points on the truck at all and I had to return them. I did wonder about sliders though because the mounting points on the frame did seem more likely to be the same for both xtra and double cabs but the boards were cheap and easy to return (Amazon) and the sliders were expensive and the manufacturers had tough return policies and high shipping costs so I threw in the towel on that. I did end up finally finding just one running board aftermarket option (toyota itself doesn't even offer any) so those are the ones I have now haha.

When you say remove the last bracket, how exactly did you do that? Did you just not use that last bracket or did you have to physically remove it somehow? Removing it seems like it would take some serious work (the whole thing is one strongly welded piece of steel isn't it?).

 

I’ve used my Milwaukee sawall and cut the weld next to the bracket remarkably enough the bracket came off cleanly. This was a pretty easy step and then they bolted into place have no doubt the factory rock sliders are better than any aftermarket product. Just take a look at the factory bracket, I think it’s 5/16 and even thicker where the bolts go through the back plate.
You could leave the factory bracket on the rock slider in place, but you’d have to modify the truck, which is doable. I just didn’t take the time to do it that way because I was going out on the trail to thrash..!

 

I think Toyota should make a Xtra-Cab Trd Pro version with the 3.5 TT V6 from the Tundra. Those seats take up a lot of room, not a issue here.
