Yaesu FTM-400XDR Install (pic heavy)

So last weekend I passed my Tech and General amateur radio operator tests, this week ive installed a Yaesu in theTrail Donkey (@thattraildonkey) and I'm just waiting on my call sign to be published. Took some pics of the install and thought I'd share. My goal was to keep the wireless charger cubby open because I actually use it to charge my phone. So i designed and fabbed my control head mount around that. Well, things working out as they did, I found that my external speakers for my CB and the Ham fit the wireless charger cubby perfect, so a phone charging sacrifice was made. Control head mount is made out of 3in. pvc with flat cap. I had to slit the sides of the pvc so it fits the cup holder realy snug. It can be installed in either cup holder.
Speakers mounted seats and center console out..again.center console cup holder section drilled for cables.
control head cable and remote Mic jack cable installed wire and cable routed under driver seat Base has the mount bracket installed and secured to the floor carpet with Velcro Front access to the Base unit with seat installed. Plenty of clearance and the rear a.c. vent under seat should help with cooling the unitFrom rear of seat to show clearance everything hooked up at Control head The Control Center ..ordered a Hondo Garage mic hanger to mount on the unholey dash mount...when you see it.

I was looking at it, seems like quite the project! Worth it though, turned out a great result.

 

Antenna is a

$26 Tram 1181 TRAM 140MHz-170MHz + 430MHz-470MHz Dual Band NMO Antenna (1181)

Tram 1181 mounted in the center of the cab on a Tram 5in magnetic base. The cable is secured with zip/sticky anchors. I'll keep a longer antenna for open road travel. I'm not sure if this is going to be my permanent antenna mount setup. Ill probably install a hard mount eventually but this seems ok for right now.

Welcome to Amateur Radio fun. Been a ham 40yrs and always enjoy HF in the mobile. More so with better conditions. Thinking of a brush grill and mount my Hi Q 6" coil to that.
