I wanted to share a cover I made for the bed with the Yakima rack system. It needs more work but it works.

    The Rack comes with locks!

I recently got the HD racks mounted onto my Retrax rolling cover. The "Tonneau Kit" comes with two locks to prevent theft of the towers (see pics below).

As for the cross-bars and side-bars, it comes with a special allen wrench to install / remove them so unless the thieves can get their hands on this specific wrench, it will be tough for them to take them out.

    Hope this helps:

I have been looking at the Outpost setup, I have the original bedrock setup with round bars and frontloader bike racks. I like that it comes out easier than my current setup when I need to use the bed. I work in bike shop part time and I can get a smoking deal on the Yakima stuff. Plus I always have liked Yakima products.

I Love these racks! Interesting the you mounted two with just one clamp. I thought about doing that when I installed mines but didn't like thought that only one is holding it down. How's it holding up otherwise?

I put these bars on a frontrunner tray. There is wind noise, but I still need to cut and install that rubber strip. Hopefully that cures the noise.

I think he only used one clamp on the rear towers in order to get them as close as possible to the tailgate.

If someone has this system installed on a 5’ bed using all four clamps in the widest possible configuration, I would be interested in seeing good pictures.

It is v nice but seems expensive compared to other products that do the same basic job in the end? I suppose you get access to a whole bunch of Yakima accessories.

I like the track in the cross bars, so you can easily add/adjust components. I don't like the bulkiness of Yakima's current gunwale brackets, so I made my own.Resized_20190509_135814.jpg

Correct. The rack towers, crossbars, and tacoma fit kit run $1000 usd. Not exactly cheap. The Thule is similarly priced. Most of the other racks on the market aren’t adjustable. That one feature alone drives the price up considerably.

Also, one huge benefit (in my mind) is the ability to take the towers with the crossbars off in less than a minute since the base plates are held into the bedrails. Plus you can adjust the crossbar spacing in between with just one screw.

Yes, it's around there. Didn't feel like that though since I bought the Retrax cover when I first bought the truck and the racks a few months ago lol!

It's solid. I have no concerns with the single mount on the rear stanchions. Even when loaded and the drag when driving, I can't imagine it breaking loose.

You're right. I had to remove them to push the rack back to its limits. I have pictures somewhere of all 4 clamps installed in the widest configuration. If I can find them, I'll post them.
