Is anyone running Yakima Overhaul HD racks with a Bakflip tonneau cover?

My friend is offering me a set of Overhaul racks for free. At quick glance, I'm not sure I can get them to work with my Bakflip tonneau cover. Looking to see if anyone has or knows of any work arounds.

    Thanks

You wouldn't be able to get it to work with a backflip without custom fabbing specialized brackets, and you would likely be unable to open the tonneau rather having to unbolt it and slide it out.

You'd be best off looking at racks like kbvoodoo for tonneaus without t slots.

That said I dislike the backflip cover.

Which has more value ... a bed rack or a tonneau? You may want to take the bed rack and figure out a new cover later. My humble opinion.

I've loved my rack but been so what lukewarm a out my synetic USA tonneau.
I've been flipping back and forth between running my overhaulhd with a decked and no cover, switching to a canopy or switching to a peragon tonneau plus KB voodoo or extrusion overland rack that are compatible.

I really disliked the mx4, was leaky and the seals on it dried up and failed pretty quickly.

If I had to choose between a bed rack or cover, in my case I'd choose a rack.

The OP has to decide. A free bedrack seems too good a deal to pass up. Sell the tonneau and buy a new one that works with the rack.

Indeed, the only downside is that are are a very small handful of tonneaus you can mount the overhaulhd to, none of which give you full access to the bed.
The cannisters type synetic, retrax and Pace Edwards have a cannisters that occupy a fair amount of the front of the bed which is annoying if you're trying to haul stuff like dirt, yard debris, or furniture where you'd ideally want the full, limited length of the bed.
Then there's the diamondback which blocks even more then that and will become a semi permanent lid.with the added weight of the overhaulhd.

I've been on the fence about whether I want to take off my tonneau and just run the overhaulhd with a drawer system.
Living in a city it's nice having the ability to hide stuff securely out of sight though

At this point, having the cover is needed. I'm a bassist and routinely drag my bass and amp to gigs etc regardless of weather (thinking about a cap eventually). The diamondback doesn't allow me to use the truck to it's full potential.

I'll probably grab the rack setup, hang it on the wall until I get time to look into this deeper or fab something up. I miss the days of pickups having holes in the bed for 2x4 uprights.

I've been trying to think of ways to keep my Yakima OverhaulHD but switch to the Peragon cover, but it's likely going to require custom fabbing adapter plates for the yakima, which will likely take some 3D printer trial and error as well as some very expensive custom CNC work, at which point I'm best off looking at another rack :/.

It's not as waterproof as it claims to be but water stays out for the most part if you seal the bed well enough(which is a chore with the Tacoma's as the bulkhead and bed rail caps are inherently leaky)
I had the MX4 as well as the x4s for a while but had pretty persistent problems with water getting in under the front edges closest to the bulkhead. (I had to double up on seals in that area due to the height difference of the bulkhead bar versus bed rail caps)
    As for the synetic tonneau,
A tiny bit of water will usually work it's way between the slats or along the front edges of the bed undernrath the rail cap (I need to pull mine off and RTV under them still)

Mine did have a manufacturing defect initially that I needed to plug up with RTV and re do the rivets as it was leaking from the underside of the water channel where the latch catches are mounted.

I'd probably go with the pace Edwards model, which also occupies less bed space when fully open were I to redo that purchase.
