Yakima Racks for Leer Topper

I recently purchased a leer top and want to use my old Yakima 1A rain gutter racks. If anyone has done this, do you recommend the Yakima side-loader brackets or the top-loader bracket to simulate a gutter? A couple people have said they like the top mount because they think the weight is better distributed...some say top mount is more prone to leakage. The side-loaders are marginally cheaper. I would love any advice. Thanks!

 

I had the rain gutter top mounts on my 2002 for 13 years. Never leaked.. I think it is a cleaner install.

 

I had the top mount plates on the Leer cap on my previous F150 for 12 yrs with no leaks. And now have them installed on my Leer 180...4 yrs and also no leaks.

I agree, it looks claener than side mount.
