Browsing around and can't seem to find what I'm looking for.

I'm looking to put a rack on my double cab short bed that has a shell. Are there any cons in going with a 42" track over a 54" on the shell?

Well, um... It'll be shorter.

Any reason you'd want to? If you get the longer track, you can always position the bars closer together anytime you need them that way. Do you just have a good deal on a 42" rack or something?

Nope just curious if one holds more weight over the other. Or if one looks better. Haha

Load bearing capacity would be unaffected.

Debadged. ARE Topper. Tailgate mods, including locking handle. BAMF LCA skids.
I had the Yakima rails custom mounted on my 6 foot bed ARE topper.
I specified the maximum length that could possibly fit and the maximum width the topper would allow. IIRC, I got about 3-4" of additional rail length on each end. I often carry long canoes, shorter Kayaks and bikes- often at the same time. For stability i want the longest bar spacing for stability and and widest bar spacing for 3 boats. I use a third bar over the front of the cab when ever possible.

This is my recent set up on my '93. I don't yet have a "triple carry" on 2012.

hey, you can find rails at proline, that's where i got mine, and they work for my yakima track mounts. 1/2 the price of the yakima ones. I have a bed rack system with 5ft rails. for the 6ft bed. that way i don't bust my rear window with the rack sliding up the rails.

Reviving this thread...anyone recently install tracks on a DCSB and can tell me the length they used? Maybe even a picture?

bump...anyone know what length track they used? It seems like 42" is the max on a dcsb...
