The 16’s had a separate key to lock the tailgate, it wasn’t laser cut like the door key

I am pretty sure I click the shit out of it in frustration, but no dice. The truck's still new, so I haven't played with it much.

If it's the port installed electric tailgate lock, it should lock with the lock button, and unlock with one or two button press (both single door or all doors). I haven't traced it, but assumed it is tied to the front door unlock solenoid power.

One thing that I can't stand. I don't know what was going through there minds when they did not put an electric lock or share a key. Really!! They already have wiring running back there for the camera.

Access cabs have a manual rear sliding window, at least my 17 does.

My 16 SR5 shares the key fob for the tailgate. Is it just the OR had that?

Pretty sure you can change lock options in the head unit display. Somewhere in the settings menu. In my 18 I was able to change it so one click on the fob unlocks all 4 doors; instead of one click for driver and a second click for the other 3 doors.

I also changed the setting to unlock all doors with one tap of the unlock button on the key fob.

Thats probably because it's a manual. The ones with smart key had a separate tailgate key.

Yes because you have a regular key, manual transmission. The smart keys were laser key and they cylinder in the tailgate wasn’t. Thus you needed an extra key for the 2016 models

    Right on brother

The key that pulls out of your fob should be the same one used to open your door and should work on the tailgate. If it came with regular sized separate key then you may want to verify that your truck is a 2017 or maybe the lock cylinder was replaced

The issue here is that 16-17 used a standard H cylinder in the tailgate. Until they offered and changed to a cylinder to match the laser cut key, they had a separate key that was stored under the lid in a special holder. You still see this holder, because... why retool the mold to exclude it? That costs money!

Yes, the key in the fob will work in the tailgate. Same as the separate key does. It is a 17 and no cylinder has never been replaced. Bought the truck new.

The mini key in my key fob works in the door but does not work in the tailgate. The key for the tailgate is an old school key and only works in the tailgate.

The options on my 16 Off Road DCSB... w/o: side radar, heated seats, sunroof ... With: push button start, navigation, heated mirrors. Also has a chrome rear bumper

Is my truck wired for an actuator assembly? Do you guys think I could buy the lock actuator and plug it in? Is the wiring back there?
