It kind of looks like clotting material used in radiator-fix-all additives. I would consider watching all your fluid levels and temperatures for a while. Most likely it is some left over/ squished out gasket maker that has warn loose from a previous repair as others have already stated.

Were you drinking a Negra Modelo when you last changed oil?

The gold flakes could be partially restricting oil flow through the pickup screen, causing less than optimal oiling (piston oil control ring) and increased wear on iron parts (piston wall) - or other internals

    • I've been inside a lot of Japanese engines and that plastic looking stuff looks like either a gasket sealant or perhaps the previous owner Removed oil pan or rocker covers and didn't replace gaskets only used way too much sealant. Most of tensioners I've seen are either grayish black, or white looking plastic that does yellow but is very hard and doesn't crumble between your fingers, I also would open up oil filter and see what its trapped. I'm thinking it is excess sealant on oil pan cover, Now why would someone remove oil pan with only 80k miles??? Unless ???? If there is no material like this in filter ,I for sure would pull oil pan and see if oil pump pick-up screen is full if its in filter it could have come from cam and valve covers or anywhere in oiling system. check your oil pressure with proper gauge.

What would yellow flakes be doing in the oil unless they added the stop leak to oil or he had a water to oil leak that was so bad they got into oil. Either way his truck would have Far bigger problems to worry about beside yellow flakes!!
PS. I'm betting sealer on oil pan because if it came from cam covers it would be plugging up oil passages everywhere!!

Thanks! I think it represents my attitude sometimes.

I can do one better than that.

I still have a ZX81 in my attic which was later re-packaged as the Timex-Sinclair 1000. This little powerhouse had a whopping 1K of RAM which was expandable up to 16K with the 16K RAM pack shown in the picture above. It used a TV as the monitor which reduced the cost down to $150. This thing even had graphics and yes, you could even save your programs to a cassette tape.

That is awesome ,I can remember when 4k of upgradeable ram cost as much or more than the computer you were installing it in. It really amazes me how much our Generation has gotten to see and how fast life has progressed since they popped off that first pair of nukes. If your avatar reflects your outlook then I'm sure you built an emulator and knew how to write simple hex programs and tested them in a sandbox, that were used for deciphering certain signals!!! Plus we get to drive Toys, I finally got the vibes my 2nd gen (69k miles) has had since new out!! It was missing some of bearings in one cup of one u-joint!!! Go Figure was like that since new!! Have a great day and Thanks for memorys!!

That is exactly what I was implying, when you find things in your oil it is time to watch all the vital signs for more major damage especially when you don't know the complete service history of the truck. I don't 100% know what the yellow stuff is and the OP has not yet opened the used oil filter (to my knowledge) to see what else there is. I was just trying to give some encouragement to keep on the lookout for other things to be wrong and make sure before they go catastrophic.

Sorry for way my reply to sealant sounded! It wasn't my intention to sound rude. If he would state how many miles he has put on truck. What I would be worried about if I was him,( with only 80k miles) is why would anyone have put gasket sealant anywhere or even opened up this engine unless it was one ,submerged, or two it had a hole punched in radiator and severely overheated, or three had a hole punched in oil pan or oil filter , or someone forgot to put oil in after changing it. Or like you said radiator sealant,

Looks a lot like varnish, or oil that has baked on to something, and then broke free. I fly RC model airplanes, and the 2 strokes build up varnish from the oil in the fuel. It'll clog up a cylinder after awhile, and the engine can be disassembled and cleaned. If the flakes are kinda crunchy and snap easily in clean breaks, it's probably varnish. If it's flexible and bends before breaking, then it's obviously unobtainium.

I'm probably wrong, but that's my best guess.

Do you use Pennzoil platinum yellow bottles? I had exactly the same thing in my car. I think there is debris in the bottle that made its way into the engine when poured in. The yellow is the same colour. Burns similar too. No magnetic also not a metal.
