For 2009 safety features were added and the Tacoma no longer offers a mechanical limited slip differential rather an open differential which uses individual wheel braking to simulate a mechanical LSD or "Auto-LSD". TRD off-road models continue to come equipped with a locking rear differential

You should still have TRAC though. I think I remember someone saying it comes on on its own? I've seen videos of older 2nd Gen trucks doing the old mod and it works for them.

I just read a couple threads of the 09+ having TRAC. If this is the case, I think you're out of luck with traction control. This mod can't work if you don't have the wiring for it.

Just completed this mod today using a separate wire fed to the battery (via add a fuse). I ran the wire from the horn and hazards fuse through the fire wall (port hole next to the brake booster) under the steering column, behind the center dash (by taping the wire to an unfolded wire coat hanger and feeding it up and behind), where it pops out behind the glove box to the left of the cabin air filter. I used a wire splice to connect my new wire to the clipped PC-9 wire. I zip tied the new wire to existing wire clusters where possible to tidy it up and electrical taped it to the thick cluster of wire coming from the fuse box under the hood. Cleanest result I found.

Everything is engaging properly and it seems to work. Maybe I should jack up a wheel in 4lo to be sure.

I did this today. I installed a switch. So, ran two wires to the glove compartment area where I cut and spliced into the PC-9 wire. Switch is above the fuse box, so I get the 12v power from the fuse box. Ignition fuse #1 w/ an add a fuse thing. I used a 150ohm resistor because that's what I had. It works.

Now I've got a traction control/ABS kill switch, because my truck tries to kill me on mountain roads. (I'm not slipping at all, but it slams the brakes on, causing me to skid forward, and on the roads this happens on, skidding forwards could mean going over a cliff)(and if you don't know, this is something that happens on some lifted rigs).
And now today installed basically the opposite.. The 4lo traction control ON switch.

Easy helpful mods, and my truck looks just a little more like a cockpit. (all my factory switch locations are used already, so now several are small aircraft looking toggle switches I drilled into the dash.. That along w/ my CB radio, HAM radio, switches for lights and external fuel pump and house battery relay, and rear camera view, scangauge for MPG, tablet for mapping, etc, etc.. )

I'm thinking about doing this version 2 mod to my 2014. I'm a little confused about adding the resistor. Can anyone post a picture or explain where that goes?

You ever do this on your 14?
Looking into it on my 2012 sport 4x4.

Any down sides to this on a 2012 dclb sport.
I don’t wheel it but definitely take it off the pavement hunting, camping etc.
I like to baby my way thru stiff and try to keep my truck dependable.
Had lockers in a jeep years ago and liked being able to slowly tackle obstacles with ease.
