So in case anyone was wondering the key fob is waterproof. I went swimming in the ocean today with my key fob in my pocket. It was submerged in water for over an hour. I was worried the truck wouldn't start because the sensor in the fob might not communicate with the truck's push button start. The doors locked and unlocked -- everything worked normal.

    Maybe I was lucky.

Great to know! I just assumed it wasn't because all of my past key fobs weren't. I'll still try to keep it dry as much as possible

Yeah I'm going to test that one but good to know if it happens by accident though.

    Bet it's not.

Give the salt time to work.

You might want to put that in the dishwasher for a cycle to rinse the salt off.

You're probably right. I'm just glad it worked, even if temporary, enough to get the truck started so I wasn't stranded at the beach.

goto the local hardware store get some electronic contact cleaner and rinse off the circuit board. The shell can be rinsed with tap water. I agree with @Clearwater Bill , give the salt some time to work its magic :)

Mine's been through the washer twice when I forgot to empty my pockets. Still works.

If you pop it open you can see there's a silicone seal that the buttons sit on that wraps around the outside of where the circuit board sits.

I’ve had my Honda Accord key in salt water more times than I can count. It has a gasket in it. I’m hoping that the taco key is the same construction.

Glad to know it's waterproof! I was out kayak fishing and got soaked from all the fish I caught and my key fob got pretty wet...I was scared it may not work either.
