I took off the door badges (they looked retarded to me), I also took of the sr5 and the v6 off the tailgate only leaving the toyota and tacoma badges for now. I am planning on getting some vinyl (sockmonkey decals) in the future.

I don't get the whole debadge thing, but that's just me. Tastes are totally subjective. Back in '89 I bought a Toyota pickup, it was a pre-Tacoma SR5 4wd regular-cab, white in color, cool little truck and I drove it for years, but it had this big gawdawful check-mark striping that was dark blue in color, plus had "TOYOTA" in big letters running the full width of the tailgate. At some point I removed the check-mark striping but never did mess with the tailgate. None of it offended me exactly, but at the same time I wasn't nuts about it. My current base 4wd '08 regular cab is pretty modestly 'badged' by comparison and I think looks fine just the way it is. So, to debadge or not to debadge, that is the question. I'd say that if a person can't decide, they aren't sufficiently unhappy with the current look and ought to leave well enough alone. It's something you can always do later if you change your mind.

Poached this pic from another thread, but a nice side by side to help you decide.

when i did mine.......i didabout 4 or 5 coats of adhesion promoter, letting it dry between each coat, then about 5 or 6 coats of the black duplicolor...letting it dry between each coat. when you are applying the paint....do not make the coats of paint too heavy......do them lightly...by the 3rd coat...it will be coated well, then the additional coats will cover it all.

I thought about debadging for about a month. Went ahead and did it the other day. It was 45 degrees outside and took about 30 minutes to clean the doors and tailgate. I do like the look, but I am keeping them in my workshop. Sometime in the future I might paint them black and put the tail back on and maybe the doors. Mine is Barcelona Red with the black bumpers and black fenders. The chrome just looked out of place

I took my badges off thinking I was going to paint them black and put em back on.... but I liked the way it looked so much that I left it debadged :D

yeah, primer should still do the trick. when you clean the emblems and wash them....after washing them, be sure to wipe them down with lacquer thinner, as it will help to remove any contaminants that may not let the primer stick to.

Yeah when I was debadging this weekend it looked killer, atleast on the doors it did without the emblems. Gives it that clean look. But I just went ahead and painted all the emblems black and then re-badged. I like both ways but thought it would be a little different with black badges!;)

The badges are just free advertising for Toyota. Certainly no self-respecting car designer would ever have badges obscuring the clean lines of his design. The badges also collect all kinds of crap in their little nooks and crannies and make it hard to wax. Finally if you leave them on long enough they will create a shadow if you ever remove them. White letter tires are similarly lame but that’ll have to wait until I get a little wear out of mine.

I'm going to partially debadge my tailgate, after the rain leaves the forecast.

the 4th picture is really sharp, clean looking. is it the same steps for the tailgate decals? i like how you took off the toyota.

Stop advertising for Toyota. Some people would argue debaging looks plain, I think it looks clean. Either ways it's cool. Blacked out is also very cool.
