My third brake light arrived in the mail today in an extra large roll of bubble wrap. It appears to have a manufacturer date of August 15, 2019, but looks new and has a nice thick gasket. Hopefully I can find some time this weekend to get it swapped out. I'll report back when I do.

Dropped of my 2017 with the brake light leak this past Tuesday for recall, was told it could be a quick or protracted fix(. 2 weeks) depending on the water damage. Was told they would have a answer today from corporate, still no answer, but was contacted that they had a Tacoma loner truck waiting for me. I will hopefully get some answers when I pick up the loner.

4E067CB9-AF2F-45EE-AFB2-DDBFC593848E.jpg The dealer is chasing the damage. Quite a shock! Still don’t know how long this is gonna take. They did give me 2021 army green sport dbl cab as a loner.

Just called my local Toyota dealership (Walker Brothers, Miamisburg OH) to set up a service appointment for my 2019 TRD OR for the high mount brake light service campaign. The guy on the phone told me that the first step is just an inspection, and that's all they'd do if they didn't find a leak.

I read to him verbiage from the Toyota website "If no such water leak is identified, the dealer will install the Center High Mounted Stop Lamp Repair Kit FREE OF CHARGE."

The guy replied with "ummm...OK....just know that the inspection & the repair kit install may not happen on the same day."

Great! Sounds like I'll be nicely "serviced" after I drop my truck off at the stealership next Wednesday.

Just brought my truck in for the recall and they refused to do it because of my campershell. There is plenty of room to replace the light. They refuse to sell me the parts. Anyone know where to get the gasket to do it myself? Fed up with Toyota's service department.

Sometimes things need to be left as is.
I took my truck in as I mentioned back in August to get the fuel pump replaced under warranty.

I mentioned to the service manager that the weather stripping on right side had came loose. This truck has only 5000 miles on it and never been in a car wash. They said they would take care of it.

While I was there I was also told about the leak in 3rd brake light . I asked them if they were going to remove the headliner and the SM said he didn't know.

This is when I found out they did the patch job on 3rd brake light. They also told me they took care of the rubber trim on right side of top.

I drove the truck back to my shop and have not used it since.

One day about two weeks ago I walked by the truck and noticed something that looked like a dent in rear part of top. Sure enough it is there.

I sure have never been on top of this truck and the sunk in place has no sign of anything hitting it. Looks like where someone would have put their knee but I can't prove anything because its been 3 months ago since it was in the dealer.

I know the headliner will have to come out to get this fixed, at least I think it will. I was thinking I would just buy a gasket for the 3rd brake light or complete light assembly and replace it while I got the headliner down. I had called the dealer and they never returned my call but being I didn't notice this dent for three months I doubt they will admit it was done there. They also left silicone or glue on the brake light.

This truck still has 7 months left on warranty .

Find a paintless dent repair specialist not affiliated with the dealer. I guarantee they can pull that dent out and you'll never notice it was there. I'm glad I bought the replacement lamp myself as opposed to dropping the truck off at the dealer for their "fix."

I know these things are silly, but let me tell you, they actually do work. I had a branch fall on my roof and leave a dent, I was able to pop it right out with this.

Does anybody have an ebay link for a 3rd brake light gasket for the 3rd access cab? I'm not 100% sure but I believe the 3rd brake lights to the 3rd gen access cabs are the same for the 2nd gen double cabs/maybe the 2nd gens in general (single/access/double cabs). I am doing the meso customs 3rd brake light mod to fix a leak in my access cab. I should have never changed the 3rd brake light but did so to a darker colored housing to match my dark theme I have going on. Big mistake, created a leak that is not covered by a recall. Any help would be much appreciated!
