Update: my salesman called me back after my phone call and told me that they have everything on file and as they get the fuel pumps in they will begin to schedule everyone for service

So I just received my fuel pump recall today ... I called my service Dept and asked if the fuel pumps are on back order or is this something they can go ahead and get done.
Parts manager tells me I must bring in my vehicle to service Dept for them to schedule and order fuel pump because they order by vin number !?!! Wtf ... so I’ve got to travel 100 mile round trip for a vin # they can one look at their records of my sale or two I can give them my vin # over the phone ?!? I call BS ... I have heard that they will keep your vehicle or make you sign something if you leave with it ?!!?
    Any thoughts from y’all ?

small update I called my salesman and gave him same rant as above ... waiting for him to call me back

That’s crazy. I’m sure they do have to order it via using VIN. BUT they should be able to do it over the phone along with scheduling it.

That doesn't sound right... I emailed the lady a couple days ago, that I went through my purchase with. (April -July .. Got my truck mid Aug. ...) She had my VIN and emailed me back two days later that my particular truck was not on The List, but if it were to come up later, she'd let me know, by email or a phone call, just ASAP.
It sounds to me like a dealership going the extra mile vs. the one that doesn't give a shit. I found when I was first looking for my new truck .. The local dealers here (Spokane WA./Coeur d'Alene ID.) didn't want to 'bother' with finding what I wanted. They only wanted to sell me what they had on the lot already.. Which wasn't much.. I had to buy from a dealer in Montana (4 hours away) that was more than willing to get what I wanted and still follow up after the purchase.
It sounds like you have a 'Don't Bother Me' dealer you're trying to work with...

My service advisor just called me out of the blue telling me they got the part in and I just scheduled an appt. over the phone. Took only an hour to complete the work and I was out.

I called my dealer and told them I wanted it done. No questions they ordered the parts and it was done 7 days later. Never had to go down they had everything on record.

My wife's Corolla was under the pump recall. They do indeed order per the vin#. That's how it works.

Try a different dealer. They don’t know what they’re talking about.

Why would the salesman have anything to do with the service department?

Just relax, they have your info in the computer if that’s the selling dealer... a quick name and the advisors can look up the vin and order what needs to be ordered.

That sucks. I got a call from the parts department last week telling me my “special order part” is in and can be installed at my earliest convenience. I told them I hadn’t ordered anything so I wanted to know what it is. The dude sheepishly tells me it’s a fuel pump. I say “nah I didn’t order that”. He says we ordered it, it’s for a recall. I told them I need my truck for work and don’t want to come in for something like this. Long story short, they got it done in 4 hours on a Saturday. I left all my work shit in the bed so they definitely dropped the tank to do the recall.

Call them speak to the manager and explain the situation, tell them to pull the sales file from the sales department to verify your information. If they dont want to, tell them this other dealer will do it, why cant you?

Would a copy of your vehicle registration and picture of the Vin# on the truck not work?

    1. the salesperson wants your repeat business so they will help. 2. the salesperson can get it done instead of calling and talking to a clerk at some desk and getting no results. they basically will get you to the front of the line.
if my salesperson just refers me to the maintenance dept and offers no help they will not get my next purchase.
