I've been lurking in the shadows around here for a while, but I now have a question about auto LSD that I just can't figure out.

I've got a 2012 v6 4x4 trd sport, and I've used it in all conditions and I've been happy with it in all but one. THE SNOW. Let me explain. It drives fine if I'm being safe and normal in the snow, but where it sucks is when I'm trying to have fun. I like to get the tail out and drift the snow covered roads in the rural parts of South Dakota and so far I've only found 2 ways to do that. One is my holding the TRAC button for a few seconds at a stop and all the assists turn of however it becomes an open diff which is not as much fun as I know it could be.

The other way which I'm more concerned about is when I hit the TRAC button briefly while on the move which turns the auto LSD on but VSC is off until about 30 mph. The problem is this. I know the auto LSD is giving me a bit more power to the ground (snow) but as soon as I get the tail out all the brakes freak out and it tries to stabilize the slide. You can counter this by adding more power but then the speedometer starts reading around 40 mph (is the speedo hooked to the rear wheels is this truck?) which in turns brings the VSC back on and kills the slide.

So in short, is there a way to have the auto LSD on but nothing else at all? In hindsight I should have bought the off-road version but I was dumb and didn't know any better. Help?

Long answer is, your vehicle stability is still on in the auto LSD mode. It wants to correct your having fun. Only way is to hold the button for 3-4 seconds while sitting still.

Now, I too was out having fun in the snow yesterday. I had all the driving vsc and trac off with 4wd on. I was probably going around 35 or so around a turn and I had a slight drift going into the turn. The vehicle stability reacted and corrected the truck.

So I guess even after a certain speed the vehicle stability is turned back on. At least on a 2013. I don't recall if the 2011 I had did this it not.
