So I was able to score a used Supercharger over the weekend, the guy said he took it off becaise he was trying to save gas and he could use the extra money. After i got it home I noticed i had no instructions on how to install so I did a few searches here on TW and found some but along with that I read that alot of people end up installing a 7th injector, and sometimes even a different pulley. The guy I bought it from said that it came on his 4runner and he never had a 7th injector and never had any problems with his. So do I need a 7th injector?

I think you only need the seventh injector if you go to a smaller pulley for more boost (More air requires more gas)

Is your truck equipped with an EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) Valve? That is your first question... If it is, you can't run a 7th injector setup. You can upgrade the 6 you have though. It costs slightly more and you don't get quite the benefit of a 7th setup, but an upgrade is likely necessary somewhere in the line.

A 7th injector kit will make it so that you don't run into any trouble with ping at low RPM. You also won't have to worry about running lean at high RPM. On top of that, you can expect to gain another 30-40 hp in the system.

The 7th injector SHOULD be required, but it's not. If you want to send your motor into early retirement, don't bother with the 7th. IIRC, the factory ECU only allows for 7 degrees of timing retard. You WILL ping, even with the stock pulley. Its called high gear low rpm ping. You'll only notice in 4th/5th gear and rolling on the throttle. Its painful to hear and even more painful on the motor.

Do yourself the favor and make the investment. If you have EGR, you can't do the 7th, but UDR still offers a separate kit for EGR trucks. You'll get the same split second piggyback, but instead of a 7th injector, you'll get 6 larger injectors to replace you're existing injectors. It's not as efficient and controllable, but better than pinging.

Nuh uh! It's on the floor on other side of the garage, completely separate from the destroyed motor. It's in the "good parts" section of the garage next to the transmission, transfer case, clutch, starter, radiator, etc, etc, etc.

Jberry how did you like the setup you had? I have the grey supercharger with the 7th kit just waiting to put it on. Was thinking of a smaller pully too but not sure yet.

Sounds worth it, last thing I want to do is damage my motor.

Loved it. I'll be running it again soon enough. You can get the smaller pulley and throw in some headers for some extra ponies but you'll need a new tune on the PCU. If leave the factory tune you won't be taking advantage of the upgrades.

Yup. But worth it. I was in the same boat. I got a great deal on my s/c brand new in the box on craigslist. I installed it without the 7th. After the detonation sounds, I ordered the 7th injector kit within a week but was a little taken back by the price. It is worth it though.

You won't "have" to. Gadget sends out all kits with his factory tune. It's a basic tune that works for pretty much any 3.4. However, when you start adding upgrades (for example exhaust airflow), you won't really be taking full advantage of it unless you retune it. You can start playing with the tune on your own, or just drive it. It comes with instructions that are kind of general.

Putting on a smaller pulley makes the supercharger spin faster, and as such, boosts more air into the system. Again the factory ECU allows for (i think) 7 degrees of retard. The piggyback will retard the timing even more in those high gear low rpm lean out conditions. I dont know if you'll be putting too much air into the system at that point in which case you might start pinging again and need a new tune.

Don't be shy, call Gadget at URD. He's really down to earth and easy to talk to. Tell him what you have, and what you want and he'll give you an honest no bullshit answer.

I personally never bothered, but I'm running stock in the performance section except for a magnaflow. That and CA has really shitty gas. I wasn't really looking for the extra hp from the 7th, I just wanted the ping to go away. I mean, this was supposed to be my "economy" vehicle so I wasn't driving my Tundra around all the time. Ah well...fuck it...its only money.

Bahahaha yea I bought mine for good mpg's too now I am lucky to get 15. Ok I will deff give him a call but like you I may just stick with stock for now and see how I like it. But I know I will always want more.

What did you notice the most about it when you put it on good or bad?

So I got a dump question, is the EGR the little Mushroom thing behind the intake?
