Also, what is the difference between 13WL calipers and S13WL? I have noticed they seem to be the calipers of choice, but to me, being non mechanic, they appear to be the same? I'm looking at using the S13WL calipers for my upgrade, with the TRD Trail team wheels 15mm, 3"extended braids from LCE with my 881/5100 front lift.

Is all of this going to fit together?

Yes you definitely will have to trim the dust shield. I traced/marked the shield/caliper with a sharpie and then used an angle grinder to trim the dust shield back.

Not sure the difference. Do the hard lines connect to the same nub? There are two nubs on each caliper, one has the threaded hole for the fitting and the other looks like it is blocked off but could be drilled out for a different configuration.

No, and they are pro comp 8069s. Also, you do not need to cut the dust shields. Just simply bend them back and out of the way, until the rotor can be turned and no contact with the dust shield is made.

I cut mine where the calipers would hit as well. Then bent them back so that the rotors don't rub.

I guess you could bend them back enough to clear the calipers...I chose to cut and bend.

Sorry for the crappy edit (used photobucket)...but here are the places I cut the dust sheilds at:

Here is mine after the trim. My rotor also rubbed a bit so I pulled the shield away a bit.

I am stepping up to the larger size calipers this week, I run 16 inch American racing wheels with plenty of current clearance with my S13WE calipers. hopefully its not an issue.

Here are some more photos from my brake upgrade...

Checking clearance for dust shield. Had to trim about 1/4" off the corners and bend/push the shield back a bit to clear the thicker rotors.

These inserts come with the EBC brake kit. They are supposed to prevent vibration I think. The kit only came with 4 though even though there are 8 pistons. The instructions don't say where to put them. Next time I will call and make sure I have one for each piston.

These are sweet pads. A little dusty but basically this is the best friction material available from EBC (Extra Duty).

I know the retainer clip is upside down in the photo. I had to pull the wheel to flip it.

Spindle brackets, clips, hard lines, and braided hoses from LCE. Everything fit up very nice.

Red calipers are a bit flashy but I think it turned out not too bad.

Awesome photos! Unfortunately, I will have to postpone my upgrade because I had to get a new Ujoint two days ago. Maybe over Thanksgiving I can do it. Until then, I'll just replace my current warped rotors with stock Tacoma ones. The Wheeler's SS lines will still work with the stock calipers, right?

Stupid question here.... do you need to purchase the pins and retainer clips for the pad's when doing the upgrade? I'm looking at getting the calipers, roters and pad's from advance.

My brake caliper came with all new guts including the pins and retainers. I would think most remans would also have them. They will not come with the pads.

Edit: I'm not really impressed with the cotter pins or the retainer clips that came with my calipers. They seem flimsy and weak compared to back in the day. It's hard to believe the retainer clips do anything to push the pads apart.

Retainer clips don't do a lot but without them I have experienced an increase is braking noise in other vehicles. Something simple that I would not recommend leaving off the vehicle

I agree. It just got me to wondering if anyone makes a stiffer retainer.

Ok so I went to advance auto online and purchased caliper's,rotor's and pads.
    This is my break down
    Total spent... $373.58
I got $83.23 discount by separating the order in half and used 2 different 20% off codes. Each code will only allow $50 max.

Also there is a rebate for the pads and rotors for $40.00
And the core charge of $110

    $373.58
    -$110.00 core charge
    -$40.00 rebate
    -----------------------
    Grand total of $223.58

If anyone is still on the fence about doing the upgrade here is a photo of the stock 04 tacoma front rotor and for grins a 2000 golf/jetta rotor. There is more material on a golf front brake than the truck?? Not a gti just a standard golf. image.jpg

Hey guys, I ended up having problems with my brakes this weekend and am in need of replacing one of my calipers on my 2002 Prerunner.

Local auto shop has the S13WE and S13WL in stock. I see there is good info on the WE on this forum, but S13WL fitment has been somewhat confusing. My Prerunner TRD has the stock TRD 16" rims. Should I pick up the S13WL? I don't mind trimming the disc guard if that is the only modification...

Does the WL have a higher risk of rubbing my rims than the WE?

I looked around and couldnt find any direct comparison other than the length of course and size of pads used of course.

Basically I'd like to get the WL as long as I won't have clearance issues.

Figures I'd be stranded on the holiday weekend working on my truck! :/

EDIT: Seems like the WL is fitting nicely :) Just a tiny bit of trimming as others have mentioned on the shield. Other than that, I think the WL is the way to go! Thanks for this thread! Just as a reminder for anyone thinking of trying this, I wouldn't try it with any rims smaller than the 16" stockers. My wheels clear, but not by much!

I just did the upgrade today with the S13WE calipers. All I have to say is wow, incredible stopping power.
I also put on the LCE tundra to Tacoma hardline and stainless brake line conversion.
I love it. The truck should've come this way from the factory.
There might be slightly more pedal travel but the feel is great.
I had doubts about the upgrade after reading many stories about a sloppy pedal but I'm so glad I did this.

Hey guys I'm preparing to do this upgrade but my only concern is whether my scs f5 16 inch wheels will clear the calipers. Other than that I'm all set to purchase the necessary parts to begin. I believe my wheels are 3.5 inch backspaced. Not the usual 4.5. Anyone with some insight please feel free to reply
