Well I haven't had the greatest experience.. Possibly the worst I'd imagine with how many problems ive ran into.. But alot of what was discovered and fixed during install, were things that had been neglected and ultimately needed done, so I'm happy those things were discovered in the process as they would've only gotten worse.

But as far as my brake issue goes, ive been doing some research and tests, and pretty sure I need a new booster too! Ugh. After allllllll that's happened, time and money and ALL new brakes and hardware, axle bearings and seals, one axle being done a second time, fighting with those banjo bolts(think I finally got it to stop leaking today), new master cylinder, another new battery(free replacement tho), multiple bleeds, bedding in the brakes, all this after new scs wheels and new tires, and she STILL isn't working right. Sigh.. Booster is the last thing that hasn't been replaced, so after that it better work like a brand new truck, or ima lose my fn mind! Lol. At least she's back on the road tho.

Can't really comment on the performance just yet seeing as my booster is failing and pedal responsiveness is kinda intermittent atm. But here's a couple pics. I just wish the rest of my truck was just as clean now. Ha.

Looks like you got the Callahan kit too. Which route did you go with for the brake lines? Wheelers?

Ah. Well lemme know how it goes. Curious if anyone else had any problems with the brake lines like I did with the Callahan kit.

And I didnt have any flare wrenches either. Was kinda scared. Ha. But it worked out fine and without a hitch as far as all the lines went with a regular wrench. I'll still be gettin some for future use tho.

I used the banjo bolt that came with the stop techs and stock tacoma brake lines and it was good to go. The stoptech tacoma lines line up exactly like stock,so im hoping for the best.

Sometimes were the banjo bolt seals against the caliper is to rough to seal. If you take the line off the caliper and put a small piece of paper towel in the hole. Then smooth the casting with a file. Clean it all with brake cleaner
Remove the paper towel and clean again. Resemble and bleed brakes.

Tundras don't use banjo bolts, they have a flare fitting with a hard line - which is why the way we do it with a banjo bolt isn't quite right. Just tighten that sucker down, it'll stop leaking eventually. I've had my calipers on and off several times and they always seep a little fluid at first then dry up.

Sounds like your booster isn't holding vacuum, the diaphragm in it is probably blown. Time for a new one. Unfortunate that you've had so many problems with this setup, but hey, once you've got it figured out it should stop like a champ!

This would be a sweet upgrade for my Tacoma. LCE offers a rear conversion from drum to disc brakes... Anyone have any experience with doing Tundra brakes all around? Any links to helpful threads? Thanks!

I was considering the same but there is a good argument for drums having more stopping power and longer lasting. The largest trucks on the road have drum breaks according to one post on a thread on this topic. Also I think the Tundra and Tacoma drums are the same. I’m personally going to do the Tundra front break upgrade and take my truck into my local Toyota and have them give a gander at my rear drums to see if they need new shoes/pads.However It would look frickin’ sweet with all four calipers cherry red peekin’ out of them rims! :D

Does anyone have any recommendations for kits? Just went to change brakes and one of the calipers is seized so time to replace anyways. I just have the stock 16” wheels on my 1997 Tacoma and I don’t really want to do much in the way of modification.

I just called a place in Cali that specializes in Toyota vehicles. They wanted $45 a piece for the 231mm(13WL) Tundra calipers and $25 for shipping to DFW. Now all I need to do is see how much the stealership charges for the stainless steel lines for a Tundra...

Update:Just called Toyota of Dallas. The ss lines that attach to the 231 (13WL)Tundra caliper are $8.76 a piece. Part #’s 47315-0C020 and 47318-0C020

I'd still recommend the Callahan kit. Even though I had a few hiccups. Others have not. The only mods are gonna be very slight trimming of the dust shield. And maybe drilling the banjo bolts(Even if the wheelers ss lines and bolts are used with the Callahan calipers). Some do not require drilling(Napa or oem I think have not had issues afaik). Or the lce kit which comes with the hard lines and is a hassle free install, but more expensive. I think those are the only 'kits' you can get, everything else is purchased/ pieced together at your own choosing.

Interesting. Do you mean drilling the banjos as in that little tab that sticks off the end of the brake line? I'm not very experienced with car work (but this truck is helping to expand upon my comfort zone), so correct me if I'm wrong but I'd just look for whatever 13WL Tundra caliper and rotor set I'd want? If I just bought OEM tundra brake lines, I'm set. Any benefit of these other aftermarket ones? Does the year matter? I think I saw the 13WL for the 2000 Tundra.

Well, I received the shipment today of the calipers and rotors. Lo and behold, they sent me only rotors. So pissed. Hopefully they’ll correct their error STAT!

But man, these rotors are huge! And they fit in no problem on my 1997 Tacoma. Just had to bend the dust cap back a little. Now I just need calipers and to figure out how to change the brake lines...

You will have to cut the dust shield about two to three inches on each side to fit the Tundra calipers too.

I’m going to order my brake lines from the stealership. I just had them quoted and I think they were $17 a piece.

Where did you got those rotors from?

Yeah, I expect that the calipers wouldn’t fit into that nice little dust cover cutout, thanks for confirming my suspicions!

The seller replied and said it went in two boxes and the second one is arriving today! Looks like I will get to put them on :)

I got the wheelers brake lines. Dealers told me $87/line. As did oreily. Lol. Got wheelers for $75/pair.

    I purchased these from eBay:

Be prepared to have issues with the wheelers lines on the Callahan calipers. In my case, the banjo bolts were still too long and had to drill them. Or I should say the calipers arent threaded deep enough like others seem to be.. Be sure to test it before you install them. I would clamp the oem hoses shut before you remove them completely, and test fit the banjo bolt fitment. Then drill/shave off what you need to until it's good Then continue replacing the lines. So you dont fight with losing fluid.. I would also get more copper washers too. I went thru a couple pairs of washers before I ended up using some thick ones that finally got it to stop leaking.

    Good luck.
