I have a Yeti tundra 65Qt. I didn’t buy it though, I won it at work.. It seems like a nice cooler, I haven’t even used it yet. Still has the tags on it. I use it as a bench to put my duffle bag with my clean clothes in to take to work. It works good for that.

I've had a handful of these spendy coolers and have settled upon the Yeti 105. In my opinion, unless you're single and not going on any trips longer than a few days, a 65qt is not big enough. Get a 105 or 110.

Here's what I thought about them:

Pelican 65 (no wheels)- A BEHEMOTH of a cooler. It was tough as nails but just too god damn big. Ice retention was solid, I just couldn't deal with how much cargo space it took up and how cumbersome it was
Yeti 65- This was my uneducated purchase to replace the Pelican. It seemed like it was half the size, and that had a lot to do with the lost volume due to Yeti's model numbers not matching their actual capacity. It was a great cooler and served me well, it was just too small for week + trips. After I put the food in there wasn't enough room left to add enough ice to do the job.
Yeti 105- This was my educated purchase to replace the Yeti 65. I cannot say enough good things about it. The footprint is just a bit larger than the 65 but it's much taller which is really nice for my use. I truly don't think I have any complaints about it. Just a solid cooler all around.

I've never owned an RTIC but I have borrow a friend's 65 for a short trip I went on. The 65 is substantially larger than the Yeti 65. It held ice fine and seemed like a good cooler. However, to say it's "the same" as a Yeti is simply not true. To me, sitting it next to my 105 (I had sold the 65 at this point), it just didn't seem to be as well made. The hinge wasn't as "tight" (opened both coolers and tried to wiggle the lid) on the Artic, and with the latches closed I could grab the lid of the RTIC and pry it open a little. This was not the case with my Yeti. My last highly calibrated test was knocking on the lid like you do when trying to find a stud in a wall. The Yeti had a nice "thud" sound to it, while the RTIC had more of a knock. To me, this points toward the Yeti being more dense, but that could have just been due to the differences in lid size.

All in all, the RTIC seemed like a good cooler, especially at a price point of $239.

The Yeti 65 is $399, but if purchased at REI you can get 20% off, and receive a 10% dividend for an effective cost of $287.28

The Yeti 105 is $479, but if purchased at REI you can get 20% off, and receive a 10% dividend for an effective cost of $344.88

For me, I'll continue buying Yeti products. They continue to serve me well.

Full disclosure: I may be a bit of a fanboy. I do have one or two of all of the Yeti cups, but I don't have any Yeti decals on my vehicle, or any of their clothing items.

Were where they when this took place?
That does not seem even remotely possible. Did you pre-chill the cooler in a walk-in freezer, fill it to the brim with ice, then set it in the shade?
Or are you saying that after 7 days there were a couple pieces of ice still floating around?

And of course there's this..20180116_212025.jpgYeti are decent coolers, but there are better coolers for your money out there. I don't think they should be able to get away with advertising cooler capacity the way they do. You don't always get what you pay for.

How old is that review? I couldn't find a date on it. Also, didn't include RTIC

I'd like to see a test that shows how long each cooler holds the internal temps below 40 degrees, since that's the danger zone temp for raw food.

Cooler had beer and drinks, and primed. Any cooler you want to hold ice for a long time needs to be primed. Put drinks in, fill with ice, 24 hrs later drain what melted and level off with ice. The 7 days it was in a non insulated garage In alabama during the summer and opened only once. Water and a few pieces of ice. If it stay in the back of the truck and opened often I can get 5-6 days of cold out of it.

Don’t know what poster couple posts above is talking about. I’ve done direct side by side comparisons between my rtic and a buddies yeti. No play whatsoever in my rtic hinge or play with the rubber latches. Seal is Airtight, so much so it’s sometimes a pain in the ass to break the seal to open the lid. Minor differences in the rotomold process, yeti does seem to have smoother seams. Love my rtic as a hunting/fishing/camping cooler. If it had wheels it would be even better, can be a b to transport full. That applies to all coolers this size though.

Great deal especially if u get one during their many sales.

All three are reputable brands and there have been many more companies that have entered the "extreme cooler" market in the last few years. Pick one that fits your budget and you can't go wrong.

Personally, I have one of the original Yeti coolers before RTIC an others came to the market. It has never let me down, albeit expensive, but I have absolutely gotten my monies worth . Regardless of company, it all depends on how you use it. If you want to keep ice for days at a time, pre-chill the cooler with ice a day or so ahead of time, us blocks instead of cubes, etc.

My RTIC seal is so tight I have to pry it open with my Leatherman or something else thats handy. Seems like the manufacturing was top notch for mine.

I have read reviews on these coolers for me yeti is best except their price. Their price is high as the comparison for both.
