I've been looking at things to get into overlanding but I planned on sleeping in my long bed which means I need a different area to mount the spare tire. This has led me to rear bumpers with swing-outs but are too expensive (CBI's Rear Bumper is $2400!) so this led me again to DIY kits to get them cheaper. I found one on YotaMafia for my 3rd gen that looks pretty nice. I just have some concerns such as will this block the backup camera, will this block my receiver if I do not recess it, and others. Does anyone know anything for this, have this installed, or have any ideas on it? There seems to be a ton of lacking in the rear-bumper diy swing-out kits.

rear swingout bumpers are pretty complex pieces. Having just completed the SSO DIY slimline bumper, I can't imagine how many bits and pieces there are in the yota mafia kit. Most companies probably don't do them because the demand isn't there.

Having owned my own metal fab shop for a few years, and knowing what it's like to try to explain very simple things to kids that went to school for welding, I couldn't imagine having to write an instruction manual that an average person would be able to understand.

as far as the backup camera goes, you'll have to get an aftermarket guy as a work around.

You dont need a rear bumper to get into overlanding nor do you need a swing out for your spare tire. Unless you are running a 35 a spare will fit underneath in the stock lcoation.

@Dkarr13 , just curious if you ever pulled the trigger on this bumper? I am looking at it for my 2008 DCSB and curious how 'easy' this really is.

I actually pulled the trigger on the Road Armor weld-together bumper instead because it has a winch mount (winch hook comes out where the license plate is). I already had a bumper on the front that couldn't have a spot for a winch (no frame reinforcement) so I wanted one on the rear. They make a cheap weld-together kit or bolt on bumper at https://roadarmor.com/
