My father always had toyotas....now I truely understamd why.

I purchased this truck a few years back. I had searched for over 6 months. Finally found it, 2001-2004 Jade Mica, SR5, TRD, elocker, tow package the works. For the price is right with 130k mi.

DD it for two years with little to no mods. Just started this summer on my build. Going for an expo style.

This is how it sits as of 02/29/2016

    Sucks in hot air!
If you're thinking of doing it... don't. Plenty of threads on this.

While u are reading up on the Deck plate mod...you will see it has been dynod and thermo profiled.

It gets cold air pushed in the front of the air box...it also allows you to seal airbox for use with a snorkle.

    IMO...best MOD so far!

Ya I have not done the deck plate mod yet. I am still hesitant because of the debate I am sure you have read about through out tw. Most of the members that did it years ago claim negative or no results. But then some claim increased power better acceleration etc... I never saw though that someone dynod it?

One question/idea I did have is I live in the mountains where the elevation is about 6000ft. So I was thinking that maybe in my situation the deck plate would help with getting more air in the intake and helping my engine perform better at this higher elevation? I definitely can tell a difference when I drive my truck "down the hill" at lower elevations and see a power increase.

Just curious... where are you getting cold air from under the hood?

It's supposed to take in the cold air from under the motor is believe. Maybe I'm wrong tho.

^ On the 2.7 air filter housings, there is an elbow that pulls cold air from within the fender area which is separated by the steel portion of the fender well.

For the life of me, I can't understand how the 'deckplate mod' pulls cold air from under the hood, or from below the radiator for that matter. Someone please, put streamers/ tassles under the hood using sticky tape and video that air flow!

Put it this way... hot air is exited from the back side of the radiator which is in close proximity to the 'deckplate mod' opening and no opening directly in front of it through the core support.

Like a previous post stated, no dyno proven results but, I'll bet it sounds bitchin when WOT.

Back in the day, when a guy had zero cash, like me, I'd turn the OEM air cleaner lid upside down to get more air to the carb. It sounded much better when the 4 barrels kicked in, especially on a 780 double pump vacuum secondary carb but there wasn't much difference in performance.

For the guys in the 'over 50' club... remember those days?

Honestly... if this is the 'best mod' you've done to your truck... I feel sorry for your truck going forward.

    Good luck.
