Where and how it saves is dictated by your default or set settings. It should prompt you to choose where you want to save it, but if not, it will likely go to your Downloads folder. If not, open a fresh file explorer window (folder icon) and it should show up in a list of Recent files. Right click on it and choose Open File Location to navigate to wherever it is and then move it wherever you'd like to from there.

From there, when in the VFtuner Flash Tool, you can navigate to the file when selecting Select Calibration and select the file.

FYI for those on older ECU IDs - I reached out to Ryan at Magnuson and had a new tune file for the new ECU ID from them in less than 12 hours. Pretty painless process.

    OK,
    That was my next question,
I got the file download from Ryan this morning, downloaded it, saved it to my VFTuner, do I now flash that new file to my truck?

Will that change my 04C20 to the most up to date configuration, that will allow me to install the YotaWerks tune?

No. You still need to update your ecu ID from 04C20 to 04C21 using Toyota Techstream.

VFTuner has an updater within the flash tool, but I don't know if it works or has been tested by anyone here.

    @tonered might know...

either way, idk if EROM tunes create an exception when using it like they do for using TIS

Do the TS upgrade for your ECU ID (04C20 to 04C21) first if you are not currently on a VFTuner "Tune." Otherwise you will have to flash to a stock tune (non-EROM V...tune) and then to the new ECU ID and then to the Maggy/Yotawerx tune. @mZiggy and @tonered have mentioned and can explain further.

If you are on an EROM file (Magnuson SC, YotaWerx SC), do the following:

Flash a non-EROM tune for your current ECU ID. Stock tune is simplest to explain, so just use that. Any non EROM tune FOR YOUR CURRENT ECU ID will do though.

    Update ECU ID via Techstream.

Flash Magnuson supercharger or YotaWerx supercharger tune for NEW ECU ID.

My truck is a 2019 AT, and it my ID is 8966304B3100. Based on @mZiggy post, I need to be on 04B33, correct?

I have the free version of techstream installed but never used it before. Can I use the Maggy dongle to update my ECU ID using Techstream?

Anyone has the step by step to update the ECU ID, trying not to brake the truck.

Yes you can use the dongle supplied by Magnuson to update. All the info you need on how to flash is here https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/ecu-tsb-update.562550/

if you have the software installed, you don't even need to launch TIS to start. Just double click on the cuw file (update calibration file) and it'll automatically prompt the TIS Update Wizard to run. Follow the prompts and you'll be set.

Follow the same precautions you would when flashing a tune WRT sources of voltage draw.

Maggy kit owners should be aware that the pump for the air to water intercooler tends to come on and draw power when the ignition is on, even though the engine is off. This represents a source of potentially significant voltage draw.

This is why all YW customers (NA and FI) get a helpful tune guide supplement document that covers basic flash procedure, steps to take to avoid ecu bricking, and ecu recovery procedure.

An easy remedy for the pump coming on is to just pull the fuse for it. Shouldn't take but a second.

Is the battery charger absolutely necessary when flashing the ECU? It would be one more thing to buy. :(

That is one thing I've never been a fan of, having the coolant pump run with ignition on engine off. Not just for flashing but any situation.

no, our testers frequently flash without a charger. If your voltage is a bit low, run the truck for a few minutes to bump it up a bit

No, but if your voltage drops below the recommended voltage you can risk bricking the ECU. I leave mine on a battery tender (not as much amperage as a "charger") and it does just fine.

True. I just hook up the trickle charger because I simply don't want to experience Murhpy's Law - which would certainly happen if I let it. :boom:

are you running the original Toyota tune or an aftermarket Tune. If it is original Toyota all you need to do is update the ECU ID via TS (TS is a toyota software the dealers use). If you don't feel comfortable doing the update find a Tuner near you and have them do it for you, or if you are experiencing the issues the ECU update addresses go to the Dealer with a copy of the TSB for the ECU update in-hand and have them flash the update for you.

??? @ktbell444 are you anywhere near Truky where he can catch up with you and get his ECU updated? Or know of a Tuner near him that can assist?
