The flash kit (tactrix OBD device and cable) that came with your Magnuson kit is what you'll want to use.

VFTuner itself can be downloaded for free from the VFTuner homepage. Your serialized Tactrix device is effectively your license to use the software.

Our tune guide supplement document (independent from the Stryker tune guide document) that customers receive along with their tune pack covers things like flash procedure, steps to take to mitigate risk of ECU bricking, sources for acquiring Toyota Techstream if ECU update is required, and ECU recovery procedure if needed.

You will need to have a Windows laptop. Some people have bootcamped/partitioned their Mac's to run Windows, but Windows is nonetheless a requirement.

It’s super easy with Marc’s guide. I had never flashed a tune before the YW tune, but if you have all the equipment (windows laptop, tactrix dongle, maybe a battery maintainer if you want to be extra safe) and feel comfortable connecting a printer/scanner to your computer, you can definitely flash the YW tune yourself. I’ve done a few flashes now and it takes like 5-10 min total.

How is everyone getting on with the 87mm tune? I got the colder plugs and tune, waiting on the pulley to show up...curious to hear any further observations from folks running it after a few weeks.

1st gen - it's got a built engine, a turbo, and waaaaaaay too much to list. 3rd gen - basic-bitch lift, S/C, Pro Wheels
I've had it on since Thursday last week and so far nothing negative as far as driveability. It's the same as the 90mm it seems, with just a smidge more power.

LMK when you want to swap the pulley and flash the tune. Garage and tools open. Been thinking about it but I make decisions about as fast as the Turtle runs the mile. :) Doing the power steering full flush and then the trans pan drop with filter replacement and changing out the low beams before I dive into the physics of 90 vs 87. Text me when the time wrench turning/computer flashing time is here. I'm just hanging out with the pup!

Will do, no shipping ETA from Magnuson yet (and I ordered a few weeks ago), but starting to get antsy!

EDIT: ISSUE RESOLVED! Problem below, solution was no big deal. YWT FTW!

Dearest @mZiggy, or any other knowledgable dude, a priest, or maybe an exorcist?

Trying to flash to the 87mm tune and ran into a snag. Currently running the YWT 90mm v1 tune for the last 6 months. I installed colder plugs and the 87mm pulley this afternoon and went to load my shiny new ECU tune from YWT...

Selected Prepare ECM the first time with no issue. Selected the calibration file (04b82 matches the version of the current tune) ran the flash and it halted part-way through. Aborted the process and now VFT will not read or identify the VIN. So this is where I'm stuck. No VIN, no selecting a VIN-locked tune... Did I brick my ECU? Or are there other options here? Wrenches are fun, computers make me sweat.

License is good with VFT and the dongle is working fine, two different cables tested, both OK. Connection to the vehicle is good. Voltage was 12.4V and steady through the whole process when the shenanigans unfolded.

Sounds like your ECU is bricked. I see your email btw, I'll respond to that too, but your tune guide covers ECU recovery procedures.

The soft reset will not work in this situation. You're going to want the recovery option that uses Gen 2 Force Flash

How long was the progress bar halted for before you aborted the flash process? Was it doing the spinning thinking wheel?

Sent you another follow up email as well.

As always great support from you guys, Gen2 Force Flash to the 04B82 stock file did the trick. Was then able to VIN/ID the ECU and load the 87mm pulley tune without any issues. I had so many failed attempts last night that I wasn’t actually ready for it to work. Once the progress bar started moving I froze so I wouldn’t disturb anything. Felt pretty stupid for raising the alarm. I hate computers.

I’m sitting in my driveway idling with no CELs right now… great success! Thanks again for your help, Marc.

No problem, and no need to feel stupid. Glad it got worked out for you.

Did you have a battery charger or tender hooked up? Wondering if this was just a software glitch or if the voltage dropped too low during the process. I'm always really paranoid about this happening!

Good question… factor present but not contributing. True that I did not have the battery tender connected when I had trouble, but at that point the battery was providing from around 12.3v steadily decreasing to 12.1v over the hour of failed attempts.

The next morning it was hovering around 11.9-12.0v so I connected a battery tender. I’m filing it as a coincidence that I performed the successful procedure and happened to have a battery tender connected when it happened.

Low voltage was unlikely to be the cause of the previous night’s struggle. Stray voltage on the adapter cable, cosmic radiation, Windows 10, the dry air and my wool socks are all higher on my list of factors-contributing.

    Computers man. :notsure:

@mZiggy anything happening with the 87mm Stryker tune with the fuel rails from @JamesT? I still have to install them but wondering how the tune's going?

Not that I'm in a hurry the 87mm tune is running so smooth :hattip:
