I originally flashed with Blackhawk over the summer (I have a manual trans). This weekend I was able to meet with Norsk to get the update (Active Duty)! It really is a major difference all around! If you thought the torque in the lower RPM range was nice before, just wait until you flash the update (no comparison, to me it is that much better). Once you get into the power-band, it has a similar feeling as you would when getting on boost in a forced induction platform. I've taken off in 2nd gear purposely from a complete stop to see how the truck drives (it doesn't bog on me anymore). When cruising in relatively lower speeds in 5th and 6th gear and increase throttle input, it is absolutely smooth and picks up speed a million times better than before. For those who aren't tuned and are on the fence on which tune to flash with, two things, customer service is top notch and if you're looking for an aggressive tune, you will not be disappointed! Thank you guys for releasing a tremendous update! It was definitely well worth the wait!

 

I can't wait. Can you imagine what Yotawex research and development could do with Toyota Corp if they paired up?

 

@Kevinpd325 hooked it up with the newest tune. Went with the weekend warrior. This tune really is amazing. Thank you Kevin and the whole Yotawerx Team.

Anyone who hasn’t tried this tune is missing out. It holds sixth gear very well on the highway and will even pull up certain hills without downshifting. This is with 33” tires and full armor. Other tunes would drop down a gear or two.

By far the best tune I’ve tried. And I’ve tried 5 of the big names ones that are/were available.

Haven’t put too many miles on it yet but I’m sure it’ll get better with a few tanks through it.

Thats what I didn't like on their previous iteration of BH.
It held 6th for no reason other than burning gas and required some effort to have it to downshift. I had asked to make a downshift earlier and it was not consistent. There was too much of "dead" pedal.
I prefer the early downshift at certain pedal input regardless of the hill size.

 

I think you are the minority of people who want more shifting.

How would holding a higher gear burn more fuel? Lower rpm=less fuel burned...

 

It actually can, and it's something I paid very close attention to in tuning the transmission. A higher gear, in some cases, will.put the truck into a much higher load and will result in more fuel consumption.

 

Brother, believe me when I say that we took yours and everyone else's feedback to heart. This is the tune people asked for. Lots of lessons were learned with this development process that are going to prove useful elsewhere. Keep your eyes peeled. We've got a lot of good stuff planned.

If it's maintaining the speed requested by your foot or cruise control. I'd rather have it hold the higher gear then hunt...

 

Yep. Exactly. These trucks are prone to weird stuff when it lugs too heavily. Ends up sounding like a diesel. There's actually a note in the owner's manual regarding this. So, Toyota knew.

Vehicle load PID (volumetric) at 99%, Calc Load 94%. I'm sure mpg bar was pegged left. Thats why I prefer the downshift

 

I also prefer an earlier downshift to keep the engine in a usable powerband. If you really thing about how little power the engine is making at say 1600 rpm, increasing load isn't going to help matters. It's better to get some gear reduction and kick the rpms up a bit.

 

There's a big old 'it depends' tagged on to that.

I can climb in 6th at 1,100rpm, be grazing pedal, and have no issues.

 

Oh, absolutely conditional. Agree there fully.
