At least he tried to shake his hand before he jumped.

To bad he didn't have a jet ski waiting on the beach.

Whether or not he was sober he still did it perfectly from execution to landing.

Seriously I hate that there are laws telling you you can't do something because its not safe. Who makes the decision: someone who has taken similar risks- understands the dangers involved and chooses to do it anyway, some politician, or a group like MNBD (Mothers with Noting Better To Do)?

I appreciate everyday that laws and public servants protect me from other people, but as a perfectly sane human being it should be on me to handle protecting myself from myself and deal with the consequences should I be wrong. Shame on the people who stole money from taxpayers in ridiculous lawsuits and subsequently stole public rights because they couldn't deal with that resposibility. Darwinism really should make its way to the government level in some cases, this being one.

I can't agree more, but to play devil's advocate, what if he had gotten hurt? Resources, (such as fire/police/ems) would be required, possibly putting themselves in danger for a rescue attempt on the rocks or in the sea... I think some laws are in place for this reason...

+1 Think of what it would cost to rescue him if he was injured. Talk about a waist of tax money, not to mention the risks to the rescue team.

They send you the bill now. Exactly as it should be.

The issue is that a lot of people are getting "rescued" and then sent a bill when they didn't want or need it, but because someone else called it in.

I take your Devils advocate and say this... Do it!! I love rope rescue its part of my job Im prolly just at the fire house taking a nap any way please wake me up so I can do my job ;). Really I have no problem going out and doing my job weather or not it was an accident or stupidity that got the person in that situation, I will still do my best to safely remove a person from a hazardous area into a safe are.

first off it is not illegal to BASE jump. Jester has a colorful history in the sport and this is not his first interaction with the law. here is the list of charges from this jump

    F PC69 Obstruct/Resist Executive Officer
    M VC23152(A) DUI Alcohol/Drugs
    M PC602(K) Trespass:posted Land
M VC2800 Fail To Obey Peace Officer
M VC23222(B) Possess Marijuana 1 0Z Or Less While Driving

in the event of an injury the police would have called everybody on this one but whenever possible BASE jumpers will self rescue unless it's life threatening. I've been involved in a few situations were things didn't go exactly as planned and the group took care of the situation on our own. you can doing everything right in BASE and still lose your life. there are too many variables.

you'd be shocked at just how much jumping is going on around the world off both legal and "illegal" sites. odds are if it's tall enough and you wonder to yourself if its ever been jumped... it has
