With 8-10 hours I would expect there to be thawing involved. Otherwise that poor thing would pop right out with a bulldozer. You would just need to spend a few minutes winching out the little pieces

What is the ground hard as steel? Before I'd pay that I'd dig it out myself by hand. I don't care if I had to use a hammer and a chisel and it took me two days.

I have seen dozers and farm equipment, in situations like this. Your hammer and chisel, idea; is just too far fetched.

Imagine what the truck probably looks like underneath; better yet go outside, crawl under a Tacoma, FJ, or any 4x4 in the parking lot. Imagine that will be a solid mass of ice,. And remember, you can't crawl under that FJ, it is solid ice up to the truck. Axels, frame, exhaust, transmission, anything, surrounded with ice.

We had a dozer stuck and frozen in mud; and really didn;t want it to stay until Spring. We had a huge excavator, hauled in and he started to dig. Dug all around it and then made a ramp to drag it out.
But Wait: We have the dozer , with a huge trench around it, as wide as the excavator at least; and we still can't move it to drag it up the ramp.

It is still frozen solid, by the mass of frozen mud, directly under it. This is where the hammer and chisel deal; wouldn't be enough.

So the excavator had to make the hole about the size of a small State. To get the boom, enough room to dig and dig some more.

Finally got he dozer and about 3 ton of frozen mud, that was frozen to the bottom, got it to move.

Imagine: The dozer, with frozen tracks and all the undercarraige; with a huge lump of frozen whatever under it. There was no way we were going to load in on a flat-bed trailer. Oh, the big excavator, could just drag the smaller dozer around now; but getting it loaded was too dangerous.

We drug the dozer, to high ground, and a safe place; and waited for Mother Nature, to shine on us.

Talk about an $$$$$$$ few days. We cut our losses went to work at another site. In a few weeks it warmed up and the we sent a few guys in and picked and chipped and got the dozer to move on it's own tracks; then we loaded and took it to the shop.

    Hammer and chisel, no way

Warm up a little, and things can change quickly.

It's on a live spring. So every time they dig more water comes out and freezes

He defiantly won the reverse lottery. I'm not sure much more could have gone wrong for him. Hope the recovery works out well with minimal damage.
