I agree. they are good for trails in the woods, not rock crawling or any real technical trails like here on the east coast.

my BIL has had four different ones and has always dropped no less than $30-35k into them. He’s always breaking something and dropping another thousand into some part or useless mod.

    Lots, straight from the factory.
I sold my Razor a few months ago. Now I’m putting a lot of upgrades in the Taco.

The Razor is much more qualified as an off road vehicle. I took mine places that the Taco just can’t go, or if it went, it would not be in good condition on the other side. The four tires are the four outermost points of the vehicle. That makes climbing obstacles and crossing ravines much easier. Stock, it had more clearance than my Taco has lifted. They are great off road machines.

But it’s like comparing apples and airplanes.

let’s see the downsides. They’re loud AF. There’s no heater or AC. There’s no windows (for the most part). If you install a stereo, it has to be louder than all the other noises. So it becomes deafening. If you go out on a hot day, you sweat. Then get dusty. Your coated in dust like a sugar cookie. The seats aren’t very comfortable (makes the taco feel like lazy boys).

If you have the means to afford one, and want a dedicated off road vehicle, don’t mind the noise, the dust, the lack of creature comforts, they’re awesome. They’re also pretty amazing at off roading and you don’t have to worry about beating the shit out of your daily.

    A few.
Last time there was a major downturn in the economy back in 2008 it basically killed off the sport atv market. Its gonna be interesting to see if the same thing happens to the SxS market with this financial crisis.

And if so, what ends up becoming the next popular trend.

I think a lot of that has to do with a serious “new guy factor” where they are capable enough that you can sort of muddle your way through a situation that would get a regular truck stuck with a liberal application of throttle, which leads to inexperienced people going straight to widowmaker trail and cracking it open like an egg on the first legitimately tough obstacle because they whiffed any semblance of approach and hit it at 30.

That said, they are cool as heck but I can’t see myself clearing the garage space and working up the funds to swing one any time soon.

    Bingo!

Every SxS that I have seen broken out in the desert has been an inexperienced driver who used too much skinny pedal. If you take the same approach off road with a Razor as you do a Taco, you’re highly unlikely to break anything.

just because the suspension has a lot of travel and it’s running Fox shocks, doesn’t mean you can pull a Jeremy Clarkson “moar powahhh” and not fuck something up.

Totally agree. There are a few guys here in CO building quasi Mad Maxx / Ultra4 rigs with junkyard LS motors lol!! I could get into that hobby!

Eh, at the end of the day it is still a Polaris.. Get yourself a Honda Talon without the rubber band transmission, slap the Honda Turbo on it, and have fun!!

    Just teasing!

I am partial to Honda though (been on Honda ATVs since before I could walk). Hunting buddy, his brothers, and his dad are big farmers. They all have 1000 Pioneers and abuse the crap out of them. Up until those it was fourtrax, Foremans, and Pioneer 700's for them. Buddy did have a Polaris 700 for a bit, but tossed it as it couldnt handle the daily farm abuse.

Pops picked up a 1000 Pioneer as well and loves it. Not in the same league as this Polaris, but they sure are still fun! I'd probably kill myself driving a Rzr as I am used to Honda's weak power haha

Couple of years ago I looked at a Honda product side by side, with all the toys and whistles, trailer...same price as a Tacoma Offroad...and I know it's not the same but I can drive my tacoma on the road too...legally!
