I see what you are trying to do there. -_-
    :homer:
English minor in kollij, then took grad classes in writing short fiction. Very hard to do well. And being a professional technical editor has totally fucked my recreational reading habit. At the end of the day, my eyes are fried and my brain dead. Nasty and ironic occupational hazard. Plus I'm always fixing the house, so any reading I manage to do is how-to stuff (or the Tacoma FSM :p) and research. I am desperately trying to get back to recreational reading and even some writing as a personal goal. That once-thriving part of my mind is withering.

HAHAHAAH, That's hilarious. I thought the movie was ok, but if done right, it could be pretty epic. The thing in black fish tank freaked me out.

I loved to read in high school, but when I got to college I had about all the reading I could handle and stopped reading for fun. Kinda back into it now, but not like I was. Still though, I've re-read a few of the books I was assigned for class. A lot of perfectly good books are ruined forever when they become assignments for high school English classes.

I have read a few hundred books. Some I can remember the story lines but most I cannot. One of my favorites was The Good Earth.I have never finished a book that I did not enjoy. I rarely get the (quiet) time to read for fun these days, but getting lost in a book still ranks very high on my list of favorite things to do.

I happen to work at a library and know for a fact you can read most any book for free. :D

YES! Ironic, but now I am a high school history teacher. I made a list of all the books that were assigned to me and didn't read in high school (quite a few). Just this summer (from my toilet library) I finished "Catcher in the Rye", but have moved from the list to a few Hemingway books.

    Great discussion thread!

I'm with you on this one Jasmine! Don't think I've ever given or thrown away a book in my adult life. I still have my battered copy of Fatal Vision I bought when I was 12.

One of my faves is Henry Rollins..he writes all kinds of stuff, really a deep thinker.

Actually, one exception. I've given people plenty of sober books before but I usually have extras for that need.

Just finished re reading The Good Earth, originally read in 10th grade. Read Where the Red Fern Grows back in elementary. Always loved that book and have re read it another two times or so over the years. Read the Diary of Anne Frank in middle school, re read that a few years back.

We read To Kill A Mocking Bird back in High School, but I honestly paid no attention to it. The teacher told us that we would read the book, then watch the movie and then take the test. So I figured screw the book, I'll get my info for the test from the movie and that's what I did. I ended up enjoying the movie and regretted not reading the book.

When I finished "Where the Red Fern Grows" I think I gave my entire dinner to my dog that night.

I wish I could remember some of the books from high and middle school, but other than the ones I mentioned earlier, I am drawing blanks.

My fav form 10th grade was a "Separate Peace"

Something about when the athletic kid broke the swimming record but it wasnt official. He didnt give a shit, he knew he did it and thats all that mattered. Just seemed really bad ass to not give a shit about recognition.
