I've got a new Truma fridge that I'm carrying in the bed of my truck with a leer shell on top. Technically, it's a freezer/fridge, should be able to get down below freezing.

Once the Phoenix temps crept over 90 or so, it started having the hardest time getting below 50 degrees or so. It's got no insulation right now. I'm running it off a 100AH Li Phosphate, and I've also done the 400W anytime mod and still have the same issue plugged into the bed socket while the truck is running.

In fact, I've upgraded the DC cable awg and wired it directly to my fusebox for the battery system.

For you Phoenix folks, is this normal, and I've just got to find a way to shield the fridge from the sun with double sided reflected insulation (or something similar), or should this thing be able to get below 40 even if it's running all the time?

I'm about to call their support and looking for other perspectives.

I run an ARB and it has zero problems getting to my set temp of 37 degrees in these temperatures. This is directly off of a BlueSea at 12v with the plug that came with the fridge. It also has no insulating blanket of any kind.

It does not have to combat any sun exposure, as my camper has no windows when the tent is not deployed.

Just like @MR E30 I have an ARB that runs off a normal 12V system and has no issues getting into the 30 degree range. Been that way under a fiberglass topper, softtopper and GFC. Never a single issue with it getting cold and no extra insulation needed.

    I appreciate the input

The subtext is that my fridge kinda blows, and not in a good way. For posterity, I'll post what the support folks say for future searches on brand quality.

My unit is in a windowed shell, and the surface of the thing does get hot. It currently is not a reliable setup.

As a followup... Truma is sending me a new fridge.

    I appreciate all the input.

They make insulated window covers for shell windows if the new one has the same problem, that may help

I've had a couple IceCo's in my bed. Both running off a Jackery. Neither had issues getting to 38 degrees.

I have a Dometic with the bag and it runs off the Dometic battery and solar panel. No issue unless I have to park in the shade for more than a couple days, then I have to use the truck to recharge the battery.

I have the Dometic CFX 55im - haven't had it running in these current temps, but 95F last summer in the Midwest was fine. The IM (ice maker) has the trays which sit right on the coils, so the rest of the fridge is at 37 - 42F according to my thermoworks dot. Running off the plug in the bed or my home-brew 100Ah battery box.

I know a few people that had them crap out. I have their VL45 single zone and don't have any issues. Seems like they just don't make a good dual zone fridge.

Hi all I do have a dual zone fridge question for any 12v experts out there.
When my dual zone fridge is plugged in to my dual battery system only 1 side cools and it cools past the set point. Does anyone know what causes this?
when plugged in to the house it works fine.

I'm in Ahwatukee, got the Dometic CFX3 35 and a Jackery 1000 Pro. Haven't field tested this yet but inside the house testing is impressive.

I'm very interested in an additional 12v DC connection installation inside the cab - the current 12v connection is used for my brake controller.

Who did this setup for you as I can't find anyone around who will even entertain doing it for me.

I see this with my Dometic - I set it to 35 degrees and check now and then and it shows 30 degrees.
Then after a while it's back to 35 and a few hours later it's at 37 then back to 30.

From what I've read, and this may be total b.s.... because as Abe Lincoln said you can't believe everything you read on the Internet....
Anywho... if you swap it to Celcius these things hold temp more accurately.

I have not tested this theory...
