No silver in general is a dime a dozen, probably the next most popular color besides white. I rarely see the new dark-silver like my truck Silver Sky Metallic. It's kind of a unique silver, almost gray but still silver. You would know it if you saw it.

When I was looking for my truck two weeks ago, I never saw one on a dealer lot, or on the road. Then I buy my truck, and a car hauler with new Tacoma's goes by with four on it.

Damn a week ago, I would have followed that car hauler and purchased that super white OR on the spot. Couldn't find one near me so I settled for the Silver Sky color, but I am warming up to it. Still jealous everytime I see a Super White 2012+OR though.

**Edit** On closer inspection, maybe not though, looks like a PreRunner. Don't see "4X4" on the mud flaps. Unless they don't install them until they get PDI'd.

    More than I can afford
Seems like 90% of the tacomas sold in California are prerunners.
I very seldom see 4x4 on the mudflaps. Sad because it lowers the numbers of cheap base vehicles for offroad projects on down the road. One of the reason 1st gen tacoma 4x4s are holding their value as well as they are.

Tacoma peoples are not the most sociable folk (outside of forum nuts like ourselves). I guess they are too common of a vehicle to tell the "enthusiast" from the "guy who bought a truck".

Shoot, I was next to a really nice blue X-Runner on the freeway yesterday. Threw a thumbs up at the guy and he just looked at me like I had 3 heads. Even people with limited production "sport trucks" can be non enthusiasts I guess.

Funny thing is a lot of us older (pretaco) 4x4 people DO acknowledge each other. I get plenty of attention driving my 87 from other drivers of other similar vintage trucks.

This. I get under my truck more than I'd like to admit. Hell, I did it on the floor in the dealership before I bought it to make sure all the wear parts were fairly serviceable. After owning an Acura and hating everyone and everything with each oil change, I told myself never again.:D

I believe they're shipped without them in the off chance that they fall off or someone does try to steal them.

Yup!! Sounds like me. I always find myself searching for another yota when I'm out and about. My boss says I get a really stupid grin on my face when I see one, so he always knows. He tells me I'm truck gay and that I'll never get laid because I'm so truck gay. I told him that at least a truck can't bitch at me all day long.

Lol I do that too! Which isn't that hard, you can walk out my door and spot 2-3 2nd gens at any given moment. But yeah, my thinking is they likely army going to hit my truck or door ding it. Plus always look cool to park next to other Tacoma's.

I even do same with FJ cruisers, since it's the same family. My 3 & 5 year old call them "Tacoma Jeeps"

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
My tuck is brand new and some would argue I shouldn't have to do anything other than put gas in it and go for many thousands of miles, yet I'm constantly popping the hood like it has chronic problems.

Most of the time I just stand there and stare at stuff. That's the oil filter...oooh! that's the air filter (need a CAI sometime soon), that's a belt....that thing is painted pink (weird)...

Or I read stuff on this site and then go out to the garage to see exactly what everyone's talking about. There's where that part is...note to self for when I need to remove it.

What gives is that it's just a pickup, and probably 95% of the people out there driving one don't really give a shit about the other Tacomas they pass on the road.

Think I don't know that? It would just be nice to have a sence of Tacoma pride or community outside of the inter webs. Yeah I get it, outside of TW these trucks are the beige Camry of the truck world.

Exactly, I'm glad I found the A/C drain mod thread. Ran right out to garage, checked truck. Sure enough less than one week old and tons of condensation staining and scaling frame from dropping directly down on it.

Went and found a 1/2" brass barb and raided some 1/2" clear air tubing from the wife's fish tank supplies. Then got a funny look from her " Your truck has 300 miles on it and you are already fixing something on it?"

Lol. Neighbor also looking at me funny as I was under there for about 20 min trying to figure out the best method to run the drain hose.

Yeah, there's lots of Yotas around here to, and I always post next to I one if I see one. I wave at every one I see, from runners to old yota pickups, to first and second gen tacos. Sometimes they wave back, sometimes they just give me strange looks.
Ha ha, Tacoma Jeeps. That's great. I definitely see why the kids call FJs that!
I've got my best friend's four year old pointing out random Toyotas when we are out and about. He calls them all Yotos. He definitely got that from me!
