Sorry, the water heater museum already exists: https://generalsociety.org/a-new-museum-arrives-at-the-general-society/

One could say that people are boiling over with excitement to visit.

I opted out of tracking with my 5th gen 4Runner, deleted my info with Toyota, and pulled the DCM fuse.

    1. Reportedly this has the result of disabling Bluetooth telephone calls, which I can’t confirm as I don’t want to talk at all while driving.

    2. The stereo still uses the front passenger speaker.

    3. Car play does still work, except that I have Siri as close to excised from my phone as possible and so CarPlay does not work for me. I only want to play Spotify through the stereo anyway.

    4. my SR5 didn’t come with nav, and anyway Toyota’s navigation has always sucked. I use Garmin satellite nav.

Remember, the .gov IS out to get you. Just be their good little battery for the matrix, m’kay?

the irony is that only the insurer's define what 'aggressive' is. and when no one can be penalized for 'driving aggressively', do you really think they're not going to move the goalposts to maximize their profits?

There has never been a phone conneted to my truck, I don't have any navagation system and I never activated that satellite radio so I don't feel like I'm missing anything.
My wife has rolling smart phone, I have a basic truck. We're both happy.

Just a heads up. The aluminum foil hat won’t stop the mothership from tracking you. The aliens just laugh and laugh at the silly aluminum hats. Do you own a smart phone ? You’re being tracked !!!

What's the big deal? It's not like data centers are being constructed and need energy. So what? Those data centers need energy throw a couple wind mills in the ocean. How is that energy going to get to the data center? By eminent domain Timmy, by eminent domain when the family farm is taken away to make room for transmissions towers to support the data center and its thirst for energy. Fresh locally sourced seafood and produce be damaned, the insurance industry and AI needs your precious information, even if it raises the price of groceries on single working mothers and fixed income seniors.

stereo still works because the circuit for the speaker is still there since the connectors are physically plugged in. You only lose the speaker if you physically unplug the DCM. But bluetooth mic will not work if the DCM is powered off.

If you disable the DCM you will lose remote start if equipped.

Purchased Toyota Certified, with Vijay bumpers, additional lights, and Falken Wildpeaks on Fuel rims. Prev owner apparently painted the grill.
It slays me that people say things like "what are you afraid of" and "if you are not doing anything wrong, what have you got to worry about". Your car collecting information is a privacy invasion. End of statement. If you ask this question in 2010 - there would be no confusion. The slow erosion of privacy is a slippery slope that we the people need to be constantly vigilant against.

Interesting that just after reading this thread, I was sent this video.

while i agree with you, people that think they are going to claw back some of that lost privacy by disconnecting something are fooling themselves.
that is not where this gets fixed. I don't believe it ever will be fixed. There is too much incentive and reward to gather info to be used for profit (and other more nefarious reasons).

edit: this does not mean you can't disconnect if you really want to. you just have to strip yourself of all devices and live in a grass hut in the woods. :D
just don't leave the hut - you know - satellite imaging.

It will most likely come about that your insurance will start jacking rates because you aren’t providing information. Kinda like how they justify under 25 drivers with much higher premiums because of no “history”. Selling info is big money and all politicians get kick backs so nobody ain’t taking that cash cow down.

If you’re worried about tracking devices, I recommend deleting System32 from your devices

    It's a trap.

"Delete System32 was an infamous scheme to trick novice PC users into falsely thinking that System32, a crucial folder needed by Windows to function properly, contained spyware from Microsoft that would collect user browsing data and needlessly slow down their computer. The prank began as Windows XP was bringing the 32-bit NT-based system into mainstream usage. Casual users who did not know much about computers often fell for it." - Microsoft Wiki

Nowadays, Microsoft IS spyware. The quality and stability of their products is trash. The only program of any value is excel, and I’m sure any halfway competent developer can program a spreadsheet. bill gates stole everything from Steve Jobs, and now he wants us to eat bugs and drink pooty water. Eff him sideways.

Just think about this, when was the last time you walked to the airplane gate to welcome your friends or loved ones as they deboarded (or boarded) the aircraft? Once something goes away, it doesn't come back.

Used to be able to do that with a pocket knife too. My great uncle could take his cased Parker as carryon. This world is but a shadow of itself.
