You think you’ll be more likely to be pulled over with LED lowbeams?

The title speaks for it self, but to add some substance. I have a brand new Tacoma 2019. Came with yellow halogen bulbs, I replaced them with DOT certified LEDs. The beams do not look like they need to be adjusted as they line up with the old bulbs against my wall. Pulled up to a smaller Sedan and the beam was below their back windshield. Visibility of the road is 100% better!!

I live in Texas, do you think I’m a moving target to be pulled over since most bulbs I see in the road are halogens therefore mine seem to shine brighter than most on the road? Might sound paranoid but I dread being pulled over for silly stuff like this. Too old to be a troublemaker lol

At least in my state the only thing that makes you more likely to get pulled over is having a headlight out or going at least 10 over the limit. I don’t think the average cop gives two craps about your LEDs unless they are putting out a lot of glare above the normal beam pattern and in his or her eyes / rear view.

Yep, I agree with you. Just a headache to deal with the uncommon cops who do not educate them selves on the positives of a more modern lighting system..

You are not likely to be pulled over because they are in projectors which control the glare.

However, your LEDs are not DOT compliant, nor legal, so a cop can rightfully still cite you. Your light system isn’t “more modern”, you’ve put a newer lighting product in that it that it wasn’t designed for causing a loss in distance projection. For more modern you need assemblies designed for LEDs like these:
    https://www.theretrofitsource.com/toyota-tacoma-xb-led-heads.html

Whatever manufacture sold your LEDs to you as “DOT certified” flat out lied to you. All drop in LEDs are illegal as they do not work correctly.

So while illegal, reducing your distance projection and significantly increasing foreground light (not good), your LEDs are unlikely to get you cited. See this thread for in-depth info:

This is the one I ordered. States DOT on the description and on the LEDs. What do you think?

Chinese product lies. Again, all drop in LEDs replacement bulbs are federally illegal, zero exceptions. No legitimate brand would ever stamp that on an illegal product, they are just looking to prey off the uninformed. If I bought them, I would report it to Amazon to prevent others from being scammed.
