my 2012 Access Cab 4x4 cam with Dunlop AT20 tires in 245/75R16. At 3 weeks old I took it off-road and within 10 minutes I had poked a rock through the tread and made a small hole. We were able to drive it a mile to where my buddy was parked and he stuffed some plugs into the hole and aired it up with a small comtressor. That was a few months ago and I still have the rire on the truck but it leaks a bit so I have to add air every two weeks. I honestly cannot say a better tire would have survived this, but 10 minutes off-road is very disappointing. To their credit they are decent on the pavement.

I have a set of 265/75R16 Dura-Trac tires to get mounted but am torn over the whole TPMS issue (should I spend $300 to but more sensors AND screw around having them programmed to the truck or just tollerat the dash light). I want to keep the stock wheels for another set of tires.

Dungflops came on my DCLB SR5... Complete crap! And thats just road driving. havent been off road with them yet and dont even get me started on their snow performance... not one good thing to say and I'm with everyone else when I say, "why do they put these on from factory??" They can't be saving that much...

Can't wait to have the extra $ to put new tires on.

any way we can possibly complain to the stealership or corporate and get our tires exchanged, mine has 8,000 and they are ripping to shreds driving on texas roads. its pointless to buy a brand new truck and then turn around and put new rubber on it

my TuRD sport came with the bridgestone's. 31k miles so far and a good 10-15k left. I have a short commute in city traffic and do little hwy driving, less than a 1/5 of that is hwy. some gravel use too. I do dog the truck on occassion and enjoy blowing the tires off when the road is wet. tires are quiet and good all around traction. A tire will only last if it is taken care of. I think a good set of question to include in this is air pressure, balancing, and alignments, and how often each one is done. i rotate mine every 5k miles, check pressure monthly and align every 15k. most people i hear whining about too short of tire life and poor performance do none of the above. I also had a set of Michelin LTX's on my 95 explorer 4x, 50k miles no problem. one of the best tires i have ever owned. even put a brand new set on it 3 months before i sold it.

Dunlops, had to go in 4wd for 3" of snow. Never had to do that in any vehicle in my entire life.

Gonna try to get rid of them. Sucks to buy a brand new truck and have to drop a grand right away on new rubber.

As far as I know, all Tacomas can be programmed with only 4 or 4 + 1 (spare) sensors at the time. If you buy another set of wheels with another set of sensors, you will have to get them programmed every time you switch wheels. I'm cheap, I just ignore the light.

Here is a great write up in case you haven't seen it yet about TPMS and how to deal with it.

I had them on my truck for 5 years and 70000 miles. I did not think they were too bad of a tire. I rotated them every 5K miles and kept them properly inflated and was able to get quite a bit of mileage, granted they were mostly highway miles but also stop and go traffic.

    I bounce it offa stuff.
I have the Rugged Trails. They've never given me trouble on the road, but as soon as I get on anything that's not asphalt it's GAME OVER. They're nearly worn out at barely 30K, so I'm shopping around for some 33's.

I have the original tires. They seem fine in the snow and rain. Not the best of course but I really can't complain either.

I have not taken them on anything more than a dirt road so any real off road comparison I can't say. When they were new I did take them through some fairly deep snow, about 1 foot, and climbing hills was fine as long as I kept my speed up and avoided excessive wheel spin.

I currently have over 42k on mine, and my truck is SC'd, and they have ok tread left but are getting down there.

As far as excessive wheel spin in slick conditions...it's a truck. You have limited weight in the rear, it'll spin easier than a car or a larger truck or with weight in the back. Even my '85 with a 4-banger and 33 BFG's could bake the tires all day in the wet or snow. Put even 200 pounds in the rear next to the tailgate and it drastically changes.

I have the Bridgestone Duelers on my 2013 Sport. So far the are ok on the road (dry and wet). Only once in snow and it was really more ice than snow, so really not a fair gauge.

I had the BFG Rugged Trails from the factory on my 2003 and barely got 22k out of them. I changed over to the BFG KOs and when I traded the truck they 72k and still had some wear left. I'm trying a set of Hankook Dynapro ATMs right now on my 2002 and so far I love them but with only 5k it's hard to say what kind of wear they'll get.

I've never really been scared of driving in the snow (and I learned to drive in the mountains in Colorado on a 2wd Ford Ranger and a '90 Miata) but I honestly cannot say I feel safe driving the taco with the stock Rugged Trail tires in bad conditions. If it's even a little icy or snowy the truck fishtails and the traction control attempts to stop it (and this includes having about 350lb of concrete in the bed). It's not so much forward traction (though this is an issue as well) as the inability to stop in a reasonable distance. I had a 2006 Xterra prior to the Tacoma and I was shocked at how bad the truck was in the snow compared to the Xterra. I'm going to purchase some X-Ice Xi2 this week in hopes I can remedy the issue. I'd rather have credit card debt than these tires in snow/ice.

I had the dunflops. They had no traction, wet or dry. The last straw came when I hydroplaned into a guard rail in the rain. Got rid of them the next day. Now I have Goodyear Duratracs and these things are like glue compared to the dunflops. I'd spin my tires on accident every time I gunned it with the dunflops, but now I couldnt spin my tires if I wanted to.

After a sixth visit to the dealer and meeting with a regional tech rep they decided tires were bad and put on a new set of michelin LTX-why don't they just put these on factory and save everyone a lot of grief !?

My 09 taco came with factory 15s Firestone destination le I had 34 k on them before I traded the truck in I had no issues with them and they were far from shot. My 2012 also has the 15 inch tires but they are dunlaps I have not expended any sliding in wet slick roads down here in alabama.

My 2013 DCLB came with the dunlops. I ran them for 1100 miles then swapped them out due to hydroplaning if the road was wet AT ALL! Frankly they scared the crap out of me, serious pucker factor.

I had the boys put on Goodyear Silent Armor. They look better, sound better, handle the water and snow better. They suck on the ice so I bought ANOTHER set of tires, with studs after the GF whent skittering down the hill we live on. These are Nokkian Hakkepelitas and I'm damn happy with those....of course they will be coming off in less than a month...
