Only had one Toyota truck. Had a couple of 12 valve Rams and a 1500 Ram Hemi over the past 25 years though. Owned an 81 Toyota Starlet in the mid 90's though. 20230105_164232~3.jpg

'98 is first Taco (or Toyota) in the family. It was the car in the ad for $14.5k. Base 2.7L 4x4 5spd. No options except AC. We were originally looking for a 4-5 year old hunting truck but was still looking at $10k for similar truck with 80-90k miles so we went new. It went almost 40k miles the first year and significantly less every year afterwards. Now it has about 140k miles and spends more engine hours in the driveway with the engine idling to get the fluids warm and moving than engine hours driving. Somebody driving by offered me $13k for it last summer.

The '98 was such a good experience that I ended up getting a '16.

Cool thread! Nice trucks! I have my first and only Toyota right now, a 22 TRD Sport. Funny thing I had never owned a Tacoma, ridden in a Tacoma or even sat in a Tacoma before this. I decided when the time was right to buy a new Truck I was getting a Tacoma because there is really nothing else out there worth buying. And if I didn't like it I could sell it and not lose a dime. Turns out I love my Taco, it's beautiful and fun to drive!

I wish I still had it. $5600 new with a 22R and a manual transmission and blue vinyl interior. I even made a soft top for it (before soft tops even existed). Fashioned the frame out of conduit and conduit tent frame corners and then covered with a heavy duty blue tarp that was custom cut and then sewed together with climbers webbing reinforcements and clear vinyl windows. Loved that truck.

My first Toyota wasn’t a truck, but a 1998 4Runner 3.4 5-speed 4x4 SR5. They didn’t make many manual transmission 4Runners. I loved that thing. No pics unfortunately. The next was a 2011 Tundra TRD Sport 4x2 5.7. Loved it as well. Would still have it if I didn’t need a 4x4 where I live now. Both of those vehicles were mechanically excellent for a combined 450k miles. The 4Runner required a new starter relay somewhere around 200k and a new clutch around 300k. That’s it. Tundra nothing until ~140k when I sold it. I also own a 2013 Sienna that has been flawless. It’s at 130k.

My current truck is a 2022 TRD Sport Tacoma 4x4 MT. I have owned several Fords, VWs, and an Audi. All of them had issues of some sort. Never again.

In 2014 I picked up my first tacoma a 2010 dclb sport. Being young and dumb at the time over extended myself on it and sold it 3 years in for somthing much cheaper
    20201211_164217.jpg

After killing my old ranger with 3 deer I picked up this 18 dclb sport in 2020. Finally getting to live out the joy of all the mods I wanted to do on my 2010. thats is how it sits today.

    Yeah.
'92 purchased new for ~$8K, only options were A/C (no radio) and a rear bumper (that was when everyone was selling the small basic trucks with no bumpers, stupid). Sold in 2005 with 130K+ miles for $2500. You can see the tailgate of my 2004 in the garage.

In between, I had the '04 Tacoma, an '06 Tundra ('04 was rear-ended), '09 DCSB plain jane Tacoma (Tundra was too big), '12 TRD Off Road Tacoma, then current one.
