I have no idea what you said. I'm not bilingual. I can count to ten in Spanish and can speak some German, but not fluently. I can also spell Cuervo (you missed the joke)........not the sharpest tool in the shed, are you? Still a TOOL nonetheless. Age is relative. It's o.k., if I were still in diapers, I would think everyone is old too.:p

My new hobby is running and exercising. I gained 25 pounds over the last 2 years, and I feel tire all the time. A few of my buddies at the office, my wife, and I are all going to be in a 5K run in April. So, I am working my ass off between now and then.

I'm gonna have to join you guys on this one. I decided for some un-beknownst to god reason that I wanted to take a shot at a Tri-athalon in April.

I bike 40 miles just for a warm-up most days so that's not gonna be a problem, and I was a competative swimmer in High school, so I know how to train for that, but how does one train for running, and who ever decided that running was a form of recreation? The running part of this is not nearly as interesting or as much fun as the other two legs of this thing I have gotten myself into.

Oh, and I'll see your 25 lbs 007. I need to loose about that much myself.

I don't believe a metabolism of any sort could handle the crap I eat.

    A thing or two...
I'm with you guys loosing weight. I've lost roughly 50 lbs in the last two years. I'm hoping to drop another 15-25 lbs this year. I started lifting again at the beginning of last year but stopped when my lifting partner hurt himself. Now I just bike. I've also pretty much changed how I eat.

Hiking, Camping, and Snow Skiing. Used to be Golf but moving to Alaska cut that season short. And I will admit; WOW is a good winter activity for the long nights. Unfortunately work gets in the way of all of the above.

Hey Adam,I do 4-5 sprint distance Tri's a season.I'm a Clydesdale who muddles through but I've been at it for 10 years or so.I'll never be great at it but it's a great way to stay motivated plus tri gear is pretty cool.:D

So how does one go about A. Getting motivated for the running, and B. training for the running.

Agreed, that tri gear is cool, but at this point I'll just attempt a couple on one of my standard road bikes as I have no money for a good Time Trial bike that I may or may not make regular use of.

As I only do sprint distances, the run is only 5k.Because it is a relativly short distance,I don't have to spend a ton of time running. What I do is just mix my workouts up through the week, making sure I'm getting in some quality sessions in with each discipline. The variety is what I enjoy, because I usually feel like doing something...run,ride or swim. One suggestion I may offer if that you should experiment with "brick"training...that is,riding and then immediately running. The transistion from the bike to the run is commonly found to be the toughest because your legs will feel like lead for the first km or so.

me too, i have shin splints like crazy

I have to admit, i'd rather have to work to lose weight that not be able to gain. i have known people like you and no matter how much they eat or lift they never get bigger. They may get a lot stronger but they always look small. i like having some mass to me.

I have no idea how to get motivated. what seems to work best for me is to stand in front of a mirror without a shit on, grab a handfull of stomach fat and jiggle it around. Then go "man, i didnt use to look like this, i need to do something about it"

as far as training for running...... just go run. if you really want to burn some fat mix aerobic with anarobic (sp). for example, start out with a 20 minute slow jog to warm up, then do sprints and 20/40 splits and stuff like that for as long as you can before wanting to die, then jog 15 minutes for a cool down. thats what i use to do when i was in shape and it burns alot of fat and defines muscle. God i hate working out.....

Holy crap. I was just shooting for a 5K in April.

Ya know, I used to like you. :p

    You too!

Yeah, I can say that just sitting at my desk. I am pretty ashamed of my belly right about now.

I'm looking at a 5K also, it just so happens that the one I am looking at follows a 475 yard swim, and a 12 mile bike. Really the running is the only part I am concerned about.

    I have too many hobbies.
During the summer I sail. Cruising in a Pearson 35 and handicap racing on several different boats.

I'm rated expert(I should petition for sharpshooter) in smallbore rifle and I used to shoot high power as an expert. Except for a couple military matches I've only shot pistols informally.

Nights often find me online playing Eve.

Beer is a calling, not a hobby. I prefer ales and especially enjoy the ones you can cellar. At one time I was a semi-permanent fixture in one of Rhode Islands pubs and dubbed the "Beer Snob" by it's owner who would steer customers with beer questions my way.

Lately I've been learning more about wines.

I brew and ferment beer, wine and mead. Beers, usually ales but I've done lagers porters barleywine and stouts. Wines, usually reds, Merlot, Pinot noir, Red Zinfandel and I've done Chardonney, Chablis, Port and Ice wine.
Mead. The stuff of legends, the oldest fremented beverage known to man. Beloved drink of Vikings, Kings and the old gods. I usually make a variation of Barkshacks Ginger Mead but I've made simple, sweet, fruity, sparkling (it gets those great little champagne bubbles when you carbonate it!) and combinations of the afore mentoned.

    Downhill and cross country skiing.

    I dabble in photography.

    I dabble with computers.

I fish when it doesn't interfere with the sailing.

Reading. Usually hobby related or fiction/fantasy.I've enjoyed series by RR Martin, Robert Jordan(RIP) Terry Goodkind and reciently finished three related trilogys by Robin Hobbs.

I like to cook and bake. (Called "making a mess of the kitchen" by my wife.)

Assorted other lesser activities too numerous to mention.
