You can't go wrong either way honestly. I drove a third gen , and the power was more then adequate.

Some would argue it's like buying things made in China. Lower emissions standards, cheaper labor, less government restrictions on safety and emissions from the plant. It's generally cheaper for manufacturers to locate their plants in countries where the laws are a little lax. It may be better to support trucks made in the US by a workforce who is paid and treated properly.

If we quit buying stuff made in Mexico they might move those jobs back to the USA.

I owned a 3rd Gen (2017 V6 Auto), then sold it for my 2014 Auto. I got rid of the 3rd Gen because of the shiftyness and the bogging I would get when the ECU tried to always upshift. OVTune should help, along with gearing. Both weren't available when I let my 3rd Gen go. IF I had to get a 3rd Gen again, I would definitely go the OVTune and 4.88 gear route (with stock setup). Plus the 3rd Gen has more safety features. So consider that for what it's worth.

Jumping back into a 2nd Gen felt so much better, having that lower end torque there. The 3rd Gen had a hard time holding 2nd gear in 4L crawling where I hunt. Needed to downshift to1st and get the revs up to get the power. Granted this was high elevation and on an incline. Still though, my 2nd Gen did it better with larger tires. My 1st Gen feels torquier as well.

If you're going to test drive a 3rd Gen, see if you can test drive it up long running inclines or hills and longer than just around the block. I'm going to say that most people are fine driving the 3rd Gen, but if you're a little picky (like me) with HOW it drives, the 3rd Gen might drive you nuts. Good luck man. Just depends on what you want.
