    Driving under 55 mph.

A K&N or a dirty air filter won't make a difference in MPG.

Simple fact, the air filter is not the biggest restriction while you are driving, the throttle plate is. While i'm driving at 55 or 65 or 75 I'm still not at wide open throttle and my dirty air filter with 45K miles on it doesn't have to flow more than what the engine can use with the throttle plate restriction.

Short of wide open throttle the air filter is not the greater restriction.

I forget the total miles on my best tank, but it was around 480 and had more to go. Low fuel light came on at 450 some miles. Averaged 26.3 mpg in my 4cyl 4x4. Here is a pic I took at 3/4 tank.

    Congrats on 25 mpg!

I still think life's too short. At 55mph, it takes over 9 hours to drive 500 miles. At 70mph, I can get about 19mpg, covering 500 miles in a little over 7 hours. I would burn about 26 gallons instead of 20, but at $2/gal, I'd rather have the two hours than the $12. Gas would have to get well above euro-prices before I'd give up the two hours.

Bucc, I agree. I just wanted to see what the potential was of my V6 in fuel efficiency. I wish I had put in 0% ethanol on that leg of the trip as that may have given me an additional 1-2mpg. So it is quite possible under the best circumstances I can get 27mpg give or take 1mpg. I forgot to mention I have one of those heavy Rack-It steel racks on my 4x4. I can hear the highway wind through the rack when I go above 55mph. I wonder if it helps that my model is the bare bones base model? Being fuel efficiency can have a drain due to all the electrical bells and whistles of the upgraded models? I don't even have cruise control on mine.

^^^ I love a successful experiment, amocat. You definitely showed what's possible by keeping the RPMs down. I kinda doubt the additional electronic stuff would affect mileage much. Some say cruise is bad for fuel economy. Personally, I think it helps mine because without it I tend to vary my speed due to short attention span. That can't be good for the MPGs. And hey, maybe that steel rack helps as much running downwind as it hurts at other times?

Wow!!!! Some of you guys are getting (IMO) some ridiculous numbers...best tank if i recall correctly was around 555km or 341miles.

    I'm running 265 70 17's with no lift.

I will now have to try and improve my numbers.

Best I got in the 2010 was just over 400 miles at just under 20 gallons... in the neighborhood of 22mpg. Gonna have to wait until summer to see how the 2013 does.
