Just found this thread a week ago. I've had my truck since October of 2014, it now has 32,000 on the odometer and reading this had me worried. I brought it to my local dealer yesterday and they checked the fluid and claim it's at the appropriate level.

I then got into a conversation with the tech about how I'd read on here about many people having had low transmission fluid right from the factory on brand new trucks. He quickly replied with most things you read on forums is crap. I just nodded and walked away thinking great so this guy just checked the fluid on my truck.

Did he do it properly or did he just pull the overflow plug see there was fluid and claim it was good. On the work order they gave me at the end, there is no mention of techstream being used like others had mentioned. When I got home I got under the truck and the overflow plug had definitely been pulled because the pan around the overflow plug had residual transmission fluid on it.

Am I right for being skeptical about whether they properly checked it? When I say properly checking it I mean checking it while at the proper temperature. Sorry for the long post.

 

Tech at dealerships will do shit like that. Since they are paid on flag time, they can shortcut it. I have asked them to check mine in the past, but there was no line item on the service order, nor mention of techstream. I think they didn't do shit.

 

Just did a spill and fill on my 2013 4x4 with tow, about 1/5th qt low if that. Used scan gauge to measure temp. Feels like it drive a bit better, but at least I have peace of mind it's the right amount.

Did not read through all of the pages, so this might have been covered.

There is a transmission pan from a Land Cruiser which bolts straight over. It has a dipstick tube.

OEM parts will cost around $300 to $350.

 

For the 4.0,
do you have any part #s or more info on the Land Cruiser year model?

That'd be the components. Pan is ~$150, tube is ~$100, dip stick, I do not remember.

 

Sadly those parts didn't pan out!

Well back to the drawing board.

 

did drain and fill today.. seemed to be a quart low. drained 3 quarts out,, added 4 to get it to drain out the overflow properly at proper temp.
