I just checked mine two times today and one was at the dealer, the first time it was at the top cold level and the second time was the low hot side so the tech at the dealer said the "world fluid" they use is very susceptible to temperature so we agreed that less than a half quart would be good but they warned not to overfill, I will check it again after another driving cycle.

This issue deals more with the 4 litre engine and having to remove a plug on the side of the transmission to check the fluid . You have a filler tube with a level indicator with the 2.7 correct ?
Nice to see people are actually checking their fluids mind you

Just wondering why we couldnt purchase a 4 cylinder filler tube and make it work on the 6 cylinder ?

EDIT : The 4cylinder uses the A340 transmission and the 6 cylinder uses the A750 . Two different transmissions . The thought of adding a fill tube will not work

There probably isn't anywhere to put it on the transmission if you did have it.

There is the rub right there. How did you measure a couple of Ounces? I would say it was probably a lot more with a "Ruptured Line". The loss of a few ounces isn't going to burn up the transmission. Then you drove it back to camp.

Did they document that they refused the warranty due to the "suspension modifications". Or did they refuse due to you driving the truck after the unknown amount of fluid leaked from the transmission? It is all about what they documented when you requested warranty work.

If so you may have them by the short hairs due to the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act, they have to show that the modification directly caused the failure.

Black Sand Pearl factory paint - flattened "au natural" by tree branches.
They blamed my malfunctioning backup cam on my lift kit back in 09. They also refused to perform the "1st year of free oil changes" because of the lift kit. It was just a $75 spacer kit lol.

Gotta say Toyota has probably the worst service of any dealership I've ever been to. You pretty much need a lawyer to go to the dealeship with you if you want them to do any task at all under warrenty. Don't care, I'm out of warrenty and I do all the work myself anyway.

My experiences have been exactly the opposite. They have always been more than helpful and up front. They have taken care of every issue that I have had with my many Toyota vehicles. There have been many Toyota's, but very few issues.

My wife had the transmission go in her 1998 Sienna Van 34,000 miles ( First model year ) while at her mothers in Northern VA. The dealer there gave her a brand new Sienna Van to drive while they tried to get a new transmission ( took over a month ). She drove the loaner here to SC and for the entire month. They called and was going to flat bed her van with a new transmission and added 100K mile warranty down here to SC to pick up their loaner and drop hers off. That is about an 11 hour drive one way. Instead we elected to take another vacation and go pick it up.

That is pretty damn good service if you ask me.

Maybe should check my level;always thought that it "shifted"funny, but was told by my dealer"it's normal, you don't drive it hard enough to shift different".First time time I was ever told that I didn't drive hard enough.Guess shoud have checked it before now{19,500 miles},but "assumed" that it was pdi'd and was checked.Of course, looked at the rear end plug, and transfer case plug, factory paint mark was never broken.Might add,I work for the company that owns the local Toyota dealer, and haven't been satified with some of the answers to things I have asked,so don't feal bad,we all get bad answers from them.

UPDATE:Just talked to "my"dealer about getting my truck in and having fluid checked. Was told there would be a charge for it.Then said"well that should have been checked on pdi",was then told"No,on sealed trans,it's not cheched, unless there's a leak,or some reason to check."Never heard of anything like that before.FYI everybody.

I couldnt agree more . If I owned the dealership , there is no possible way the truck would be leaving the door without checking the fluids first , sealed or not .
Their reputation goes out the door when the vehicle leaves the property and word of mouth is everything in this day and age .For the amount of time it costs the dealership to double check a known issue , I beleive it would be in their best interest to check the darn fluid .

EDIT : I am going to edit this because I know for a fact that the dealerships understand they are sending our trucks out the door with a possible low fluid condition .They know the fluid is low yet send you on your way .

Here,s a quick question . What does the dealership charge to properly check the trans level ?
This means connecting the tech stream scanner , road testing and hoisting the truck , removing the plug and waiting for ECM to get into temperature mode .
Whats the given time or cost to the customer ?

Hey there gear cruncher, as you read in my post, my 09 with 53 k miles was a quart and a half low. No leaks anywhere . The dealer refilled my trans and shifting problem didn't go away. I brought it back to the dealer and they flashed the memory, removed the pan and found no metal at all. It was totally clean. The next day it was having problems shifting again. Brought it back to the dealer and they finally ordered me a new trans which will be installed on Monday. : )

I've seen some dealers that offer 100k power train warranty. That would be my guess or a really good extended warranty.
