When I used to live in NYC :puke:it was common for parking cops to ticket the whole street for no reason. The mind set was that people would much rather pay the $25 ticket than lose a day of work, go to court, fight the ticket, lose the case and still pay the ticket. City needs the money and will get it by right, wrong, fraud, lies, abuse. They need to keep the people in the projects happy and vote for them.

The fact that his rank is placed improperly in his command picture makes it 100x better.

In Los Angeles, they don't even use chalk anymore. they use LPR (License Plate Reader). The parking enforcement vehicle now has a video camera on it and it reads every plates it passes and adds the GPS location to it. Then they drive by again and if the LPR catches the same place twice, the system will alert them to write a ticket.

Also, they sell this data to data mining companies that complies this data with other LPR data (shopping mall parking structure, toll roads, police cars, ect). A repo agency could buy this data and if they type in the license plate number, it will show every location an LPR has ever captured your plates and the probability of your car being at that place at a certain time (e.g. 90% chance that vehicle with license plate xxxxx will be park on this street between 8am-3pm). Pretty scary.

Is that for meter parking or any parking?
What if you pay for 5 hours on the meter? They can come and check but no ticket, right?

It depends on what part of the city you are in. Some parts of the city they will not allow you to "Feed the meter" and have anywhere between 1-4 hours max limit you're allow to park in that spot.

Got a parking ticket in NYC. One very long block with parked cars all along the block. I was the only NJ plate and I was the only car with a ticket. I had to walk back a very long distance until I found the only sign that listed the parking rules and it had lost its upper bolt and was now hanging upside down. Of course I paid. Wasn't going to take off work and drive back into the city to fight it.

The one that absolutely made me furious, I was on a road trip and stopped in Manitou Springs for lunch. I parked right on the edge where city parking ended and "parking for residents only" began. Tacoma was fully in the free parking area, but my trailer hung out past the marker that indicated the residential zone, by three feet. :anonymous: I knew it was risky, but hoped that the parking gods would take pity and forgive this minor infraction, as it was a busy summer weekend and that was the only place I could find to safely park a truck and trailer after looping the city for 30 minutes. If I got nailed, then I would just own up and pay it, because how much is a parking ticket, really?

Well here comes the universe to deliver a harsh lesson. It wound up being a rather expensive lunch. Not only did I get the ticket, Not only was the normal ticket more expensive than I thought, but the fine was actually doubled on top of that because truck+trailer. (the trailer caused the violation, but because the truck was attached it counts as a multi-axle vehicle I guess?) No way for an out-of-towner to plea for a reduction. And that's the last time I spent $150 in Manitou Springs.
