My old Honda is at least 25 years old. I inherited it from my father in law. It smokes a little when you first start it, (oil seeping past the rings) but it always starts first pull.

Yeah Troybilt isn't the Troybilt of old. I bought a Troybilt mower about 3 years ago from Lowes & it lasted a day. I returned it and bought a Snapper from the factory store. 4 years later no issues. My Dad had a Snapper self propelled that lasted 26 years. I bought the same mower. The style had not changed.

I'm looking at buying a rider soon. Self propelled takes 1 1/2 hrs to mow front & back. Since my blood clot in my leg. It takes longer, because I have to stop every 30 minutes & rest.

Looking at something under $1400. Any suggestions?

Thinking of Cub Cadet, Craftsman. 17-21hp range.

oh, and Cub cadet makes great normal (non-zero turn) mowers
    i worked for a dealer/repair shop for a summer
it is amazing what these things came in with
and funny thing is, they all ran except for a couple
i had to pick up numerous husqvarnas (spelled wrong) and other things that didnt run and had to be pushed onto a trailer

    Don't buy a crapsman. They're garbage.

Can you stand up for extended periods or do you have to sit down?

In that Price range you can get a decent used commercial walk-behind with a sulky that will leave a much better cut than a lawn tractor ever would. I'm not a big lawn tractor fan, their cut is sub-par.

Never used a ride mower before, I'll go with Honda for the best push mower.

I want one of these for my personal yard. I don't think any of my clients would be willing to pay the extra money I would charge to reel mow their lawns though. I mow my bermuda lawn twice a week but I keep mine at 1.5".

I voted Deere. Runs and cuts like a champ! The bagger gets clogged easily though. Consumer reports got it right on that one.

I think I already commented Honda before, but I'd just like to say it again.

My dad's walk-behind was purchased new in '85, and we take decent care of it and don't abuse it. It finally gave up this year - nothing wrong with it from what we could tell. We took it to a neighbor who tinkered with it, and it's running smooth as silk again.

I may be wrong, but I think Husky actually makes Craftsman mowers. I know the Craftsman brand is just rebranded from the original maker. Also, Poulan is a branch of Husky as well, not sure about Troybuilts.

If you go back to the first few pages, there's a guy who admits Husky, Craftsman, and Toro are all the same thing
