I've needed it only once for a snap thankfully. I have cut/trashed boots on the trail though and needed to replace for that too.

Ugh, seems like the 3rd Gen forum’s dumbassery is spreading to the 1st Gen. Somebody put a mask on that forum.

Can you remove yourself from this 1st gen forum?
That would put a stop to "your" problem.

You're having a meltdown about someone posting a picture of their truck, on a truck forum, in a random thread about mods done to their truck.

    Perspective.

The white of the wheels is a little too white. Should color match it to the truck, it would improve the look. It almost looks fake like an R/C.

I'm thinking of doing something like this but with a separate trailer made from Tacoma chassis and box w/topper. To pull behind my 01 Taco.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
IMG_20200721_212850_810.jpg Did the rear shock relocate on the truck. Which in and of it's self isn't very unique.

But I did decide to use a unique upper mounting set up. I didn't like the double shear mounts that I had (tried 3 different kinds). SO I decided to make my own, beefy, single shear mount.

Interesting. Is there a benefit to the single shear mount as compared to the double shear. I thought the convention is that double shear is a much stronger mount. To be clear, not doubting your mounts. Just wondered what you didn't like about the double shear?

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

The single shear. The way I did it, allows 100% free articulation of the heim joint. All of the double shear mounts wanted to hit the top of the top hat of the shock at full stuff or droop. The way I did it also allows me to move the top of the shock up farther to get better bump travel. And also... single shear is a much easier way to get the shock on and off, rather than having to put the bolt through one side of the mount, then misalignment, then shock, then misalignment, then the other side of the double shear... while fighting a 200 pound nitrogen charge.

The double shear isn't done necessarily just for strength. If everyone is honest... it has more to do with you can just order the mount from Ruff Stuff, or Trail Gear, or where ever else... and not have to try and fabricate it yourself.

The single shear I made is a 1/2 Grade 8 bolt buried in 3/16 1x2 box tubing. And the shock is mounted on the bolt directly off the supported shoulder of the bolt.

The shear strength calculation of a 1/2 Grade 8 bolt is over 13,000 pounds. There are A LOT of things that will fail before that bolt will ever shear.
