The way I see it, the bombing of Japan with an "A" Bomb was more to show Russia who held the biggest stick on the playground. Japan was done, Germany had already surrendered. Thoughts?....

Truman pretty clearly laid out his rationale in his biography. It was mainly to save the lives of tens if not hundreds of thousands of Allied servicemen.

The cold war was going to happen regardless.

Most southerners (and I would know, because I am one) are in the fucking Union. I believe that about settles the matter, regardless of what one calls the war.

I myself have never been to Japan, my brother worked there for a year, he didn't follow history and didn't bother to see anything related to the war while in Japan.

I think that was a big loss on his part. I know if I were there I would take the time to visit and honor that one event. You couldn't be there and not. That war is over, and I can honestly say I have many Japanese friends, from school and work.

x1000 its war!!! not a time for pussy footing around...

Example: the navy seals who were arrested for punching a terrorist in the mouth when they captured him... thats asinine and would warrant a hand shake and a 'ataboy not a jail sentence

We need macArthurs and Pattons, not limp wristed weenies that we have. If killing some derka derka gehad bastards pisses off other countries who cares. War times= Human rights out the window. They dont follow the rules of combat why should we?

I know this is a touchy subject. I think it should have been one atomic bomb dropped for each large ship that was sunk at Pearl Harbor. Of course we did not have that many atomic bombs at that time. I hope history does not repeat itself. I agree 1000% with the bombing of Japan.

    First thing,
I think you missunderstood what chris 4x4 was stating. We aren't the military of WWII. And there is a political arena to war now. And that statement doesn't sound too good either, but nobody wants a nuke war
    Second thing,
lighten up, it's a discussion, give your thoughts or opinions

These bombings were simply the final tests that the US government wanted to conduct in order to truly see the amount of damage on a "real" city. All other tests were too controlled and the results were based on just that, controlled demolitions in controlled scenarios. The only real way to test anything is to conduct tests in the most pure and unbiased situation possible. So, where the bombings needed, probably not. Anyone can see that by this time that Imperial Japan was crumbling and was already contemplating defeat before the bombs fell.

Our armed forces, every branch, still fights like their forerunners. Selfless, with courage and honor. They are very much alike their soldier brothers from the World Wars. Plainly put, they will kick their enemies' ass till kingdom come.

The difference nowadays are the political leaders that hold the reign. These so called leaders are more concerned about what other liberal pussy nations will say. This so called leader apologized profusely, kissed and bowed before other leaders. I mean come on now. I understand diplomatic protocol and respect but for goodness sake this so called leader is head of office of one of the greatest nation on earth. ( I said "one of the" and not the sole greatest" nation, out of respect for others ;))

My point was more that the use of the bombs was less about winning the war and more about finding a place to conduct a final test. However, dropping the bombs did SPEED up the ending of the war. So by that measure, i think it was justified.

Germany was out of gas (literally) Italy was Germanys bitch & a non factor, remember the U.S. was & wanted to be on the side lines with no involvement in any war but of course Japan had its own ideas & agenda & took a calculated risk that the U.S. was too tired , unready, & depleated resource wise to give battle after waging war in Europe the previous years, so they struck & the decision to use the H- bomb wasn't entirely a "lets use it & see what happens" thing. Japan was on the ropes whether or not they would admit it, & so was the U.S. but to a lesser degree. All my uncles except for 2 fought in WW2, my Dad was in Korea, my other uncles & my older friends were in VietNam. Now if anyone is really curious about the realities of "war" are, be a fly on the wall when these hardcore vets get together, have a few beers, & start telling eachother stories about their tours. & just listen to what they talk about, it will enlighten you, it will educate you. & it will scare the shit out of you also, but you dare not chime in about some adventure that you may have had because it' ll break the somber mood that brews when these guys start letting go of some of the hell they still carry with them, God bless them....

With all due respect , you have to see & comment on the whole picture, I'm def. not a tree huggin' lib. Nor am I tunnel visioned conservative, that said, you don't want to just roll over with apologies for this & that as president, BUT !! at the same time as president you don't go around the world force feeding our brand of democracy down another country's throat. Now about the term "Terrorist" & before I get piled on, think about just the word & don't associate it with any stereo type face or culture for a sec. Ok, now the senario is You & I, as Americans sittin' at home watching the tube, we've been hearing the news from some foreign country preaching "death to America" & all that shit & the reason they feel this way is some radical interpretation of their faith & the fact that we have set up shop in their front yard so to speak. Right or wrong, invited, uninvited makes no difference. When we see it here its easy, "oh, those are terrorist" But have anyone of you ever stopped long enough just to ask yourself " If I was over there pissin' in their mess kit (their country) would that make me a terrorist. " If being honest I'd have to say that indeed I'm the terrorist, I sure as hell don't want them randomly blowing up shit here in my country so it only seems like common sense to me that they feel that WE ARE THE TERRORIST . randomly or not , blowing shit up in their country, the only reason I bring this up is because it seems like some of these post kinda reek of AM radio sound bites from guys that never served in the armed forces but try to make those who HAVE & ARE serving feel like their "one of the boys". I have yet to talk to ANY vet that served in war time, when the bombs & bulletts are flying all around that MOM , the flag & apple pie were going thru their heads while in battle. The word I get is adrenaline, fear & anger & mostly , survival, "Fuck everything else, I just want to get thru this alive" was the attitude held by all , which sounds like a perfectly normal reaction when under this kind of stress. So to put the total blame on one president or another lacks intelligence, insight or actual facts, just my opinion, don't get me wrong, I'd kill the first mother fucker that came into "my house" threatening or meaning me or my family harm whether they had a towel on their head or if it was "you". I would dispatch them without another thought about it, without predjudice. Don't call another a terrorist unless you are prepared to be called one yourself......IMO... have a great night guys & God Bless America....
