In case you missed it this is a serious discussion.

If this was talk about Synthetic versus Dino oil then fine.

    Otherwise your tact is lacking.

it was a necessary evil to shock the japanese into surrendering. Otherwise, who knows how many lives would have been lost on both sides in the invasion of Japan..

Having learned a great deal about the potential of nuclear weapons, I would say their primary purpose is a deterrent, just as an armed citizen is a deterrent to a criminal. You hope [when designing/testing] that you'll never need to actually use it, but when shit hits the fan as you're rocketing up a creek, you want to have that option available.

I agree with the late Paul Tibbets, pilot of the Enola Gay, in believing that what he did was right and would do it again as using nuclear weapons resulted in far fewer casualties than the millions of likely deaths had an infantry war broke-out.

It may have seemed like using an anvil to kill a fly would be unnecessary, but when considering the whole picture, by going to the nuclear weapons basically first instead of last, you cut out the intermediary events (re: millions of deaths). It took major balls to make those calls, because had they not ended war with Japan, there would have been a shitstorm to answer to [politically and militarily].

I think both of them were necessary to send a very clear message to not fuck with us and stop your unnacceptable bullshit now. The whole world got the message, not just Japan. I think it's wearing off and too many shitheads around the world are not in touch with history to know there is a line not to cross with us. The same message needs to be sent to Iran before they want to move beyond running their shit filled mouths about this country, our religion and tolerance for others to practice their own. And North Vietnam might need a refresher course too if they don't get a clue real quick about how fast their little flea circus could be shut down permanently.

If we didnt in WW2,I wonder if Kennedy and Kruschev would've , we might be luckier than we think.

in 4000yrs or whatever time frame , it would be best ,but dubious, if U.S. was to be the only group or nation to use nuclear weapons in any attack.

2 subs I went on temporary active duty to had nukes. I feel everyone I saw was not of the "kill em all mentality" but felt sincere that we would launch if we had to , but the world wins when we return with them unlaunched.

Its awful that we used them on Japan, but i think it was appropriate considering their resolve vs our loss of troops.

my grandmother is from japan and she was there when it happend, i have had this discussion with her numerous times and all of the citizens were told to leave the towns and go stay with family elsewhere, my grandma and her family did so and were completly safe, she would tell me about her beautiful house on the hill that got destroyed by the atomic bomb, she said it was completley gone and nothin was at all was left, but she never said one time that the united states was wrong for doing it. She explained to me how the day it was dropped was an odd day, and her and everyone else knew something was wrong, she saw all the planes go across the sky and said it was the scariest thing but like i said she has never told me that the united states shouldnt do it
