Well finally ordered the hubs from Bama Toy (Marion Bumper 2 Bumper), Installing is really simple, unlike the video here there is no axle nut for the 2 wheel drive. So wheel removal, two bolts on caliper, 4 bolts on the hub and that is it. No air wrench even needed and no 35 mm socket/wrench. Well that was the good news, the bad news is that not remembered to me the "old" hubs had already been done once and did not need to be replaced. Discovered that as the 47 mph droning noise was still there. Rotated the tires front to back and it appears the noise went with the tires. I've got Michelin LTX M/S P245/75R16's, they have about 6/32" tread with 31K miles, tires have very even/good wear, not sure why I get this noise. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. I called Michelin, they told me to go to a tire center and have them inspect the tires. We'll see what happens there. The bad news is now I've got a new set of hubs not needed, guess I could try putting on eBay. I was hoping to post them at a great deal to a member but I don't have enough posts to list on the for sale section. I'll follow up with what I find out about the tires.

I have the exact same as mojo, howling when driving and a jerk to the wheel (left) it disappears briefly. 4wd, auto with warm 33" TKO's.

At first I thought it was the SC or engine: put it in neutral and turned engine off on highway. Rear dif: so I changed the oil (it was past due). I thought it was the warn tires until I jerked the wheel today and it stopped for 2 seconds. If a jerk to the wheel changes the noise, its gotta be a wheel bearing?

Since your a prerunner that eliminates my front axles. What else could it be?

Matt, mine was the wheel bearings, well, one anyway. I bought two fully assembled wheel hubs from @BamaToy1997 and put them in myself - done and done.

Wish I had a good answer, I'm now at 145K and still the howl. Just changed the diff fluid, no change. Little bit ago a mechanic jacked up the rear end and listened with a stethoscope, he fells it is a worn pinion gear. My option is to take it to an axle shop. well that does not sound like fun.

Mine was doing the same thing when I let off the throttle. I changed my rear u-joints and the noise didn't completely go away, but it is way better than it was. I think the rest of my problem is the slip yoke on the drive shaft.

Well I finally got the truck to a specialist, does gears/trans/drive line, he confirmed the issue is in the rear end. A rebuild is to be about $850. Now I am at a cross road, time to sink a couple grand into the 145K '06 (rear end, tires and tire pressure sensors) or move on and spend $30K + on a new truck of some sort. Truck still in great shape (no rust here in FLA) and has been running good.

Keep it. Running good still and now after repairs you'll be good for another 100,000 miles.
