Z-Edge dash cam

I saw a post by Nyrangers about replacing the GoPro with a Z-edge dash cam. I'm waiting for delivery of my SR5 at the end of the month. I know nothing about dash cams or GoPros except what I can find on the internet nor do I have access to the GoPro mount yet. My tech savvy friend has strongly recommended the Z-Edge because of image quality. My question is: Does the GoPro mount have an existing power cord and if so does it fit the Z-Edge. I would like to avoid running a separate power cord for the sake of neatness. Thanks

 

i debated on trading my truck in for a gen 3 (2017) model, and I honestly don't think there was a power cord. I'm pretty sure its just the mount. If there isn't a cord, I wouldn't sweat it. This forum is great, we can all help you route a cable through the path of least resistance.

 

It does not but that cam has a long enough cord to snake it from the power plug in the center console, up the tunnel, up and behind the glove box over to the A pillar, up the A pillar, over to the mount tucked in above the headliner and drop out to the mount. Nothing showing at all. I have this exact setup.

 

yeah, snaking up the a pillar isn't difficult at all, thats your best bet. thats where i ran my spod cable through into the overhead console.

 

That's how I ran the dash cam. As well as the go pro 5.

 

speaking of go pro's and dash cameras, i got rear ended a few weeks ago (no damage to my truck thanks to a nice @Pelfreybilt bumper), and then the dirty bitch tried saying I backed into her. My insurance immediately called bullshit, and denied her claim against me. I then inquired with my insurance about front/rear dash cameras. I'm a little shock to find out they don't offer any discount for dash cams.

 

That is the reason I got a dash cam. Just for that reason.

 

You can also tap the power from the rear view mirror if it's an auto dimming one with compass, etc.... I used this location for my radar detector.

 

Go-Pro is charged via AC power, unlike radar detectors that use a 12v DC RJ11 cable. I'm pretty sure you'll need some sort of inverter in line to charge a gopro off the auto-dimming mirror.

 

We're talking powering a dash cam, not charging a GoPro.
