Finally made the swap on tires. I had a set of 285 75 16 General Grabber AT2 that I got in a trade with Boxrocket when I built his rack for the cruiser. They were nearly new and looked great. Great reviews and I really wanted to try them out.

However, with my current wheels they wouldn't fit. I didn't want to use spacers, or do a Cab mount chop, or spend money on new wheels since I have 2 sets of the steel toyota wheels and use one set on the trailer and one on the truck. I put the generals on my trailer and they sat since I got them. Finally decided I hated having new tires just sitting so I sold them and picked up a set of 255 85 16 Cooper ST Max and put them on the truck.

I swapped the KM2s from the truck to the trailer and now have 8 good tires all with the same wheels and same size. The best KM2 went to a spare for the truck, the worst as a spare on the trailer. The other two are on the trailer and I now am set.

Initial impressions are good. Highway manners are great. These are a night and day difference in noise compared to my half worn KM2s in the same size. Literally thought I was driving my old commuter car with highway tires. They grip pretty well in the dirt too.

The only thing I am slightly surprised/disappointed at is the actual size. These were about 1-1.5" shorter than my half worn KM2's brand new. I didn't really think it would be much but right before I put the last tire on I checked and there is a substantial difference.

That being said, I will get a little better MPGs and have felt minor power differences having a slightly smaller tire again. They still look great and for the type of offroading and driving I do these are definitely a better option compared to a full on MT tire. If they hold up well and do well in the snow next winter I probably will keep replacing them with the same tire.

Also the wheels from the trailer were painted and are now on the truck which makes a night and day difference on looks. I like it much better.

Truck is looking super sick! Altho your disappointment with the sizing, you will be very pleased with the ride and wear.

Yeah it wasn't a major dissappointment. More surprised than anything. I actually am glad to have a slightly smaller tire and have some more power for all the hills around me. Clearance hasn't been an issue so far.

Toyos are supposed to be good tires. Heavy and expensive but good.

KM2s are good tires. Depending on how much you offroad I would take a serious look at the coopers. If you are like me and daily drive the truck with exploring on the weekend on don't really rock crawl, I would go with the coopers hands down. If you rock crawl and really offroad your truck on a regular basis then go with the KM2s. They can still be found. Just aren't made by BFG anymore.

Do you know who makes them? I got a little car that I drive back and forth to work in so I think I'm going to stick with a MT.

Lots of places still have stock of 255 85 16 KM2s. They are still made by BFG. They just aren't getting new stock. I have seen them on discount tire direct, Amazon, tirerack, tread depot. Many places

Oh I was confused on what you said I thought you meant other companies was making the same tire that bfg was making. Just a dumb moment I'm having at work.

Yep, scored my KM2 255s online. Pickens will be slim soon. After this season we'll likely step back to something more road worthy for Season 3 (2016).

Until then we will have to compare tread life and traction between the KM2s and the ST Maxx. Our trucks are pretty darn close to each other in weight and accessories.

Was out dropping off some landscape plans to a client yesterday and drove around on some dirt roads to try and get some glamour shots of the truck. It was snowing so the photos aren't the best but here is the truck in its current state. My homebuilt swingout is on the CBI bushmaster rear now.

I preach the Maxx cuz they have never let me down. There may be spec issues with size, weight, load range.. But overall they have been performing awesome for me since day one both on and off road.
