"zerk" fitting on piggy back of shock...

what is this little zerk fitting for?



see the little nipple on the end of the piggy back? what is that? looks almost like a place to pump air into it..

 

For charging it with nitrogen.

 

can you just pump air into it? and why would you want to charge it?

 

schrader valve? it's for nitrogen, i wouldn't just put regular air into it..

 

how many lbs should that be charged to? what are you running in yours?

 

i put 200# in mine, but yours may be different. i'm not sure.

Pressure depends on shock and application. Its there because if you service/rebuild you need to be able to recharge it. Air shouldn't be used, since it contains moisture that could corrode internals. Also the pressure would build more with added heat with air as opposed to nitrogen. Which is why some places fill your tires with nitrogen insted of air.

Unless you took it apart or let out the nitrogen, you shouldn't need to tamper with any of it.

 

yeah. take it to a offroad shop that has a nitrogen tank and tell them how much you want.

scuba shops should have them. The nitrogen prevents the shock oil from forming bubbles from the heat called cavitation. considering the valving, spring rate, and performance of your shocks, nitro charge can range from 150lb to 400lb, depending on the internals.

 

think a dealer or tire shop would fill shocks up? that would be pretty sweet.

 

ok well i have the fox 2.0 piggbacks... 200 should be fine if thats not what they already have correct? i got them used, so just want to set them to be even if they arent. i have no idea. what is a good PSI to run in them?

Scuba shops won't normally have nitrogen unless they are banking the waste from their DNAx Nitrox system... and I've never heard of a shop doing that.
Shops that support technical diving will have pure O2, He, and Argon, but for deep diving where less than 21% O2 is required, they blend air "down" with Helium.

 

Tire shop won't likely be able to get nitrogen to 200psi.

 

200# is the general rule of thumb
